Haven't played this build, but what would happen if laser rifles were converted into some kind of shielded AV weapon?
Would get a purpose as a shielded vehicle destroyer

I used it pretty well to bring down LAV shields back in chrome.

I remember back before open beta, I was able to strip the shields off of shield tanks in less than two clips. Scared the hell out of them.
The PC and SL should fit into the Sidearm slot so it's accessible and practical to carry one.

laser rifle makes caldari and minmattar suits **** themselves sinc eit kills thier shields quicker than anyother weapon..... apart form flux nades. once shields are down it proceeeds to burn and melt thier slim ammount of armour :) |

I like an idea I saw posted on here before; give the laser rifle a dial. Want to use it in CQC? Switch the dial lower and make it good at CQC. Want to use it at long range? Switch the dial to optimize it for long range.

Make it hard to use on infantry and give to a heavy as a AV weapon that works just like the rifle. It would be awesome watching tanks pop from two or three huge laser beams hitting it all at once. I may train up on a heavy when lasers drop.

A pulse smg would be cool. They could just add different frequency rifles to the market and change the color of the beam and the stats. Flipping a switch seems too easy.

Havent tried the laser this build, but I think the LR should be as it is.
It might needs a little more dmg or ramp up time, but I like the way its designed.
Its not a noobtube and you need to learn the ranges, once you get used to that the laser should be able to take out qhole squads in his optimal range.
It has enough downsides to justify a hell lot of dmg in its very specific optimal range.
Thats how the laser is designed and how it should be.

Make it take a few seconds to switch. Maybe 3-5 seconds. That way you can't simple switch ranges mid-combat without taking a huge risk, unless the enemy gives you time.
It could work like so...
1.) Open weapon wheel.
2.) Select 'Refocus Laser Rifle' at the 8 O'Clock mark in the weapon wheel while the Laser rifle is in your hands.
3.) The 'Refocus Laser Rifle' is now equipped. While it is equipped, you cannot fire the rifle until it is focused.
4.) Take aim at something that is at the desired effective range.
5.) Hold the fire button [R1] for 3-5 seconds. The ADV and PRO Rifles refocus faster.
6.) Your Rifle is now refocused at the desired range. Enjoy burning heretics with Holy Light.

Like I mentioned, I haven't even downloaded this patch, but frankly, the thought of a laser annihilating the shields off a Gunnlogi/Charybdis is quite hilarious

The laser is broken. It's the only weapon that is only effective at optimal range. Even a sniper rifle can destroy In CQC. It's optimal range isn't even an advantage as it is easily outgunned by rail rifles and even combat rifles due to the fall off damage being completely ridiculous.
Here's a visual break down of how effective the laser is at certain ranges:
