(this was a reply I made in a thread which points out the usefulness of the flaylock in its current state. I feel its worth its own thread.)
I spec'd hard into the flaylock when it was first released. I did this for the same reason i spec'd into the combat rifle immediately... MINMATAR PRIDE.
The thing i hated the most about this "skillshot" weapon was that it is only effective when aimed at someone's feet. After the nerf... this hasn't changed. ATM I still carry my trusty core flaylock on my hip. It often gets used to deliver a deathblow to a fallen enemy, or destroy equipment. Sad really.
This gun needs revitalized, and i am certain how to succeed in doing this.
The Flaylock was suppose to be a "Skill-Shot" weapon. Let's make it that...
When you fire the flaylock, it reacts normally by sending its projectile forward. The handler keeps his finger on the trigger until he wishes the projectile to explode. To trigger the explosion, he simply releases the trigger. obviously there should still be a max fuse length. No more firing at someone's feet....
simply put. hold r1 to fire. let go of r1 to explode the projectile somewhere along its trajectory.

Not a terrible idea at all. It'd still need skill to use, because the splash radius is so low, but it also wouldn't be underpowered. Have my +1.
I really need to use Flaylocks more often.

I personaly wouldn't like it. Whenever I run it its usually rapid fire then melee But I hardly use It It would be a neat mechanic though so +1

Personally I thought they should have left the splash radius alone and just reduced the splash damage more than they did. That would make it a good finisher, but something that requires skill if used as a primary. |

The only time my flaylock is used is when I sneak up on someone stationary hacking or sniping, when I need to destroy equipment, or when a dropship is trying to harass me on my sniper perch. The projectile is too slow to use against anyone who knows how to strafe. |

Interesting...
I will point out that in the description of the weapon I am pretty sure it claims to have another ammo type, which in game it doesn't
So if CCP introduced ammo variants for weapons you could get what you want
- OP's idea of detonation rounds
- AV rounds
It would give much more variation to FP users

@TheD1CK, there's already AV ammo loaded into it. :(
If you fire at a dropship with a Core Flaylock Pistol, the Dropship will legitimately crash, if the pilot isn't quick enough to respond. I was flying to a sniper point, got hit by a Flaylock, instantly rammed into a building because of the force. :P

It might knock them around a bit, but it's not likely to destroy them on it's own. |

Right, not on it's own, hopefully, but often a Flaylock will indirectly kill a derpship.

I don't support changing the weapon mechanics but I'd support it as a variant maybe. |

The flaylock 'can' finish off a dropship yes, but you can't say it's a viable AV option
You clearly either hit the dropship with your Primary/AV grenades, before killing with flaylock, that or you finished off another guys work in AV...
