After some ad hoc squading fun and Dev Invasions with a bunch of you, we've created a designated channel in-game to hang / squad / nerd out in DUST! Join 'DevHangout'.
I can't promise that we'll be constantly - but when we've got some downtime or are itching to play we'll do our best. :) See you there!

As nice as it is to be able to hangout with a dev, I just wish you guys would be consistent with the weekly updates threads for bugs/tech support and feedback/requests; I care more that you guys are actively listening to what we have to say on the forums, and weekly updates is one of the few ways we have of that.

Infantry cries for tank changes, and they don't like them. Tell them to use vehicles, they complain, and use cars anyway

This is a good thread to keep an eye on then. Things have been a little slow because of the holidays (and many Devs being away on vacation, curse them!), but the thread should pick up again in the New Year. :)

I know about the thread, in fact that thread thread (and the bug one) was exactly what I was talking about, but update haves been consistently inconsistent over the past couple months, a lot of weeks skipped, once 2 weeks were skipped. The vacation thing does excuse it, you guys do need breaks. I appreciate the reply.

Sounds interesting; I appreciate the opportunity interact with the Dev team.
Hopefully you'll increase your understanding of the player perspective and we get a better picture of how you guys see the game and it's direction. More to the point I'm always down for a fun squad.

Well, we're quite often on IRC as well! I've built up some thick skin over the years. :)
It's primarily for us to hang out / chat / squad with you guys, but we're always listening to feedback. It's also quite easy to get swarmed in a sea of player feedback.

I get you. I don't think it's too different to IRC though, and I do enjoy being able to chat to players. If things become overly hostile then we'll be forced to lock it down and use it solely for squadding up - which would be a shame. So, play nice. :)

They can always have an eve character function as channel op so if necessary disruptive people can be banned from channel or muted. |

Do you guys feel like squadding up with me and Takahiro to get a tanker's perspective? We're online sort of as a mix of UK and US time, because he's in England and I'm in New York. So when it's 12pm here, 5pm there, 5pm here, 10pm there, so forth. Being in China, I think there's a difference of 13 hours between US EST?

I'm not saying that you guys couldn't handle it at all but this is a really good idea and I don't want a few morons making it impossible to continue.
If anyone from D-UNI goes over the line, let me know and they're kicked. Some of the abuse you get on the forums is frankly out of order.

The Dev Invasion was a special contract and there was bonus SP / ISK involved - wouldn't be really fair to squad up with players and not leave it open for everyone.

That's right! If you think some weapons or tactics are OP, let your actions speak for you. CCP might just show you the counter you couldn't find on your own (think of it like an advanced tutorial).

There is some truth to this. It's about point of view...we look at things from a perspective of "how do I use this item, weapon, thingy, to my advantage" and developers look at things from a "how does this item, weapon, thingy, interact with other things". It's a small but distinct difference.

I also think this is a bad idea, if you want to squad up, join a public chat like 1st Airborne like you did last night. This channel will only be polarizing and divisive. You will have those who just wish to harrass the Devs vs those who feel obliged to defend them.
Whether you personally have developed a thick skin is irrelevant; you will be (unwittingly?) pitting player against player and ruining any chance for casual squadding. Every interaction on this channel will be freighted with meaning whether you wish it or not.
That being said, I think alot of us would like to squad with you and see firsthand that you experience the same triumphs as well as challenges the rest of us do. |

IDK man, it looks like devs just want some people to squad up with. If Devs want a Logi, I'm willing, no hate/love only reps reloads, spawns and needles. They ask us for feedback here, we give it, if they want it on comms I'm sure they'll ask for it on comms, otherwise I would say squad rules apply, comms clear, important/relevant communication only. Having someone be a twit over comms usually will get them dropped from my squad after a sentence or ten. I don't see how running with devs should be any different.

Oh also, I squadded up with an old pilot friend and we got a squad of assault dropship pilots together and had a really fun time flying a squadron. I'd love to get a Dev to experience the glory and fun of skilled dropship pilots working together, we even killed a few redline tanks!
So I was wondering, what is the best time to look for a Dev in this channel? Shanghai time correct?
So glad you guys are doing this! Its a real handshake to the players and a great way to get feedback and first hand examples. This makes me want to get on dust right now but alas Christmas is tomorrow. |

I was too busy dying to counter him though I would have on some points he brought up if it wheren't the case.
I was rather surprised to stupify one player's experience in the squad by taking out two HAVs with a plasma cannon later on in the night. Going from "Really IWS Plasma Cannon?" to "How do I dust?"

I was able to squad up with CCP Pacifier. for a few matches last night. I asked him and he actually plays during his own time. He's pretty good too. Big thumbs up.
I can't really say the same for the few devs I played with during the dev nights though. Hahahha. Not like it's a bad thing. It's always fun to see devs play their own game. |
