why everyone says that shotguns are useless now. i use them all the time and usually do great. and most of the time it's on a 287 ehp suit. the only problem i have with shotguns is the broke ass hit detection. ccp fixed it 1.6 for the most part, but the flash and no damage on a DIRECT HIT is back and kicking. on top of that is the sprinting bug, which has gotten me killed on more than a few occasions. but overrall it is a really fun and viable weapon to use.
so tell me, how is the shotgun no longer viable?
Tell me, how exactly DOES a biscuit gain Valor?

Use of the shift key. =)
In other news, sg hit detection is improved in 1.7 but cqc framerate/latency is worse.
Today is the sort of day where the sun only comes up to humiliate you.

so tell me, how is the shotgun no longer viable? Its because the shotfun has very limited range. Thats actually why I used the pistols cause it lets me engage outside of the shotgun range and still hits really hard. Though Ive never been a fan of shotfuns really.

Needs an increase in Optimal, and Breach needs increased Optimal and Damage.

You do realize Shotguns can one-shot almost anything they get behind right? They don't need a damage boost lol.

Anything else, unlikely. Doubly unlikely if they aren't standing still... this may be different for creodons, but definitely true for crg-3's and k5's.

Because Rifles have barely less effectiveness at CQ , while having more ranges to work with and overall lower TTK. an ACR,for example , has similar TTK to a shotgun (unless the enemy is killed in 1 shot by the shotgun) while maintaining range engagements as an option.
its not that Shotguns are bad,they just get our-preformed by rifles thanks to their high effectivness at CQ plus ranged combat options..

it isn't versatile, in the right situation it is effective and people who can make the right situation happen consistently can do really well with it. but then it's like the PLC, great gun, god help you if the engagement isn't on your terms though.

I was a dedicated shotgun scout thru 1.6 and with ROF = 60 it meant I had to get within 10m to do, get this:
350 dps!
In 1.7 I'm a CR scout doing 450 dps at 50m.
And THAT, kind sir, is what's wrong with shotguns.

Here is a common situation with shotgun:
shoot gallente logi i in back.. he turns around and has a chunk of armor; starts shooting (has 3 DMG mods), leaps back twice out of your optimum range... And you die
the main issues that made this scenario go badly: shotguns are not as effective against armor as they are against shields and when a opponent leaps back (and just two leaps carry you out of shotguns effective range) these two things combine to penalize you so drastically that you might as well have thrown sand at them
What purpose other than to screw over CQC weapons is it that a person can cover that much distance leaping back? Your forward leap requires you to be sprinting to cover any decent ground, so you cannot actually cover the same amount of leaping forward repeatedly as you can backwards
Why does the weapon have such a severe dropoff, where just 3 meters make a distinct difference in your DMG output, when you're primarily fighting automatic weapons that have overwhelming DPS at so many ranges, including the optimal of shotguns?
The amount of times I've been trapped in limbo.. Where I have taken out their shields but they are at such a distance where the penalty to armor and DMG drop off combine to where I cannot actually kill this guy .. Also can't close the distance cause there is no tanking 3 DMG mods, from a guy backing up, who's bullets cannot be fully strafe unless he has aim assist off.. Nor can I disengage cause no matter how much speed you have, the odds of you outrunning their fire is very low..
So it's not that the shotgun is weak necessarily, but how easily it's DMG is circumvented, whereas any rifle has a DPS that easily surpasses the alpha of shotguns-- DPS which no longer can be thoroughly mitigated by speed tanking and strafing

I wouldn't go as far as saying they are useless. I just think they need a buff. They need an increase in range and damage. I also think that the fix for them would be too (hint CCP) increase spread, increase "bullets" per shot, and increase damage.
Swarm Launchers= useless / AV grenades= semi-useless

I've personally not heard anyone say that shotties are useless,but I'm assuming that the people that are say that are the same people running straight at you from 20+ meters away with said shottie while you have any other gun with much better range. |
