Tanks giving you a problem in a game? try out the Inf4m0us tank hunting formation.
Composition
LAV of choice + 2-3 infantry
For armor -Swarm + packed AV
For shield -PLC + packed AV
ALWAYS aproch the tank from the rear when it is stationary, bonus points for being patient and waiting till its hardener is used and on cooldown, try to time it so he is firing his weapon in the oposite direction, tankers have tunnel vision.
For shields, unload PLCs in unison followed by packed AV en mass, the damage is enough to interupt its passive AND active reps, time to kill... about 5-6 seconds
for armor start with AV nade spam followed by swarms as a finisher time to kill about 6-8 seconds
the idea behind this comp is alpha damage and manuverability, with the LAV you have the speed to catch the tank when its unawares and it gives you the advantage of starting the fight rather then having to wait for the tank to come to you when it has its hardeners running or ready
this is a rather simple tactic focused on replicating the high alpha damage gameplay that pre 1.7 offered alowing those AV infantry who are slow to adapt to use their tried and true methods in the new meta.
yes im aware it involves teamwork.... alphaing something without giving it any sort of chance to fight back always does, 3 is the optimal and prefered number of infantry due to having the highest alpha while still fitting in an LAV, but 2 of these groups (for 6 total AV players) creates the oportunity for devistanting AV firepower.
To expand on this tactic you can before the attack set prox traps on its projected path into the redline, this creates creates a backup plan if the tank was a little more prepaired then you thought or you mess up the timing of the attack and the vehicle guns it before you unload your full alpha.
MAKE SURE THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY
this is very important, as you want as much time as close to the tank as possable and a moving target is a target that is already running away before you begin the attack, you may not be able to unload your full alpha damage.
tested and oporational by Inf4m0us because i wanted to use PLCs |

i also want to note that shield tanks are particularly vunerable to this ESPECIALLY if they use an active booster, as the incoming damage will currently prevent the active booster from working most of the time and 3 PLCS DEVISTATE the shields oftin removing them entirely preventing the hardeners from having anything to provide resistance to |

Would this work with STD Plasma Cannons? Do they provide enough damage? I guess with a team of 2 other AVers it'd be effective regardless right

I'll test it out next time then +1
I've also thought about this for a solo AVer:
RE covered LAV + Swarm and AV nades, I'm not one for unnecessary deaths so I figured I could, using your strategy, sub out the two other teammates for the explosive power of the LAV :D
Park it next to a stationary tank (or drive it into the tank and bail out right before impact), detonate and finish them off with nades and a final volley of swarms.
But to further the discussion, the best tankers I know almost never ever stand still, what would you suggest for dealing with mobile tankers?

its a tricky one to be honest.
alot of the good tankers keep getting cocky right now so they still tend to do things like drive into tight spots they cant superspeed out of, or turn their tank so that they would have to rotate before escape.
shield tanks have trouble reversing over LAVs due to the flat rear end so parking an LAV right behind it while its positioned with not alot of room in front will buy enough time for alpha but its obviously less effective i imagine (havnt run into that)
one thing i have noticed is that the mobile ones tend to use the same paths around the map, making a sit and wait trap more viable, if your able to be hidden and probably set a prox trap the alpha you can get from prox + PLCs/Swarms is high enough, AND if they notice the proxes and wont drive forwards intot hem it would provide the same kind of delay that a stationary target would give you.
LAV really makes it easyer as the 1# complaint i hear is that they have to fight through infantry to get to the tank, in an LAV you can just drive past and or over them.
its still by no means an IWIN button, you will succeed and you will fail, it returns the AV/Tank balance to the hands of "who outplays who" rather then a guarenteed loss or win.
i myself am still kinda testing it, when i have my infantry guys with me i dont like calling in my tank and killing them solo as it defeats the4 purpose of playing with em, so i came up with this as a way to get everyone involved and having fun blowing up tanks. its been mostly militia tanks so far that have fallen to it with the exception to a poor soul in a gunnlogi that ate it pretty hard.
it definatly deserves more testing, as its VERY good against the militia tank spam that everyones experiancing but mostly untested against vetrens. |
