I have already mentioned this in another topic - but the title was very different. I'm wondering if the title has an effect.
Anyhow back to the idea.
Have an option to
a) mixed - infantry and vehicles
b) no vehicles - infantry only
c) everyone has a vehicle - you must choose a vehicle fitting to start - you don't necessarily have to play in the vehicle, but you start the match with one.
And you can cut the SP or WP earned for b and or c.
last post on this idea. |

No. Unlike most other FPS that offer mixed vehicle and infantry warfare, vehicles are a whole seperate profession with significant ISK and SP costs attached to it.
Allowing players to choose a "no vehicle mode" would lead to two things.
1. The average pilot is currently focusing his ISK and SP on his vehicle. His combat efficiency is thus hampered whenever he is not allowed to use one. Pilots would be forced to always spec into some infantry class on top of their chosen profession, while infantry can always play to their full extent without such a limitation.
2. Half a Vehicles' purpose is to provide an area of denial against non-AV focused infantry, or to provide support to allied infantry. Giving players the option to play without vehicles would mean no one in this mode would need any AV weaponry anymore. The only ones enrolling in mixed matches would be those who know they can deal with Vehicles or drive one themselves removing the "oh crap, a tank" element of the game.
A No Vehicle mode would create a section of the game some players are effectively excluded from participiating in and flies in the face of New Eden where you are not supposed to choose who you'd like to fight against in the first place.

I understand some of this argument, but I don't agree with it. I was in a match earlier today where my side had five tanks. the other side had one vehicle and each time s / he died they switched to something else, they were a tank and then a dropship and then a lav / jeep.
Now during the entire match - I saw three other red players. Not shot at or killed - saw.
I killed one, got killed by one, got sniped - never saw them, and saw another break out and got run over by a tank.
The tanks ran over to the spawning area and just camped out - the firing never stopped and I never saw another red player.
How is this fun? It's a waste of time and effort.
The 1.7 upgrade has completely changed the game in a negative way. |

The 1.7 upgrade has completely changed the game in a negative way. I fail to see how your short story justifies the addition of a no vehicle mode which this game was never designed for and it does not explain on what basis you disagree with the two concrete consequences that i pointed out.
True. Infantry has it tough right now. This is not a reason to trivialize piloting even more than it was pre1.7

Well you've made it clear you are for the pilot minority.
What portion of the gamers are they 10%? 20%?
The vast majority of the players are infantry. Screw over the infantry so that a minority moves into a superior postilion.
These changes tilted the balance too far in favor of this minority.

Really? You think this is a good idea?
Vehicles are meant to be a massive part of Dust 514, and require significant time and effort to get into. Why would making an infantry-only mode solve anything, anyway? Even if vehicles are unbalanced, it would just conceal the actual problem. Not to mention people wouldn't join the mixed battles unless they wanted to use vehicles, so in any one battle there would either be a hilarious overabundance of vehicles, or a complete absence of them.
What's the difference between an immobile Minmatar ship and a pile of garbage?
The pile of garbage looks nicer.

So your rebuttal amounts to "i'm the majority"?
Waste of time. I'm out.

Again yes - if the majority no longer have fun playing the game - the game dies.
You tilt the game in favor of a minority and not just a little, but a lot - folks will move on.
You're entire argument was "because a small group of people spent a lot of time on their skill sets, they should be allowed to run rampant on the rest of us. " You conceded that infantry has it rough right now. How long does this have to last? until they get tired of crushing the infantry, ie the rest of us?
-
again CCP should offer an option - just an option to have infantry only at a reduced SP / WP / ISK payout.
Make much bigger maps for vehicle only matches and make larger maps for combined arms games.
the combined arms games would be normal mode and normal sp/ wp / isk.
Can't do this for Factional Contracts.
This does not seem unreasonable. |
