I finally downloaded 1.7 last night and it was an odd experience.
Tanks from Chrome through 1.6 were a highly isk/sp/skill based career choice. Being one of the last great tankers was a title the community gave you because 1.0-1.6, tanks sucked unless you were very good.
1.7 was not a nerf or buff. It only closed the gap between the true tankers and the sica/soma halftime show pilots. A sica worth 100,000 isn't that much worse than a gunlogi at 300,000. This is good because it makes tanks something for everyone to try, but it also makes them highly spammable. I would be all for a speed/PG/CPU nerf to mlt tanks because even proto av has a hard time taking them out which is wrong.
Tanks traded general tankiness and constant high damage for moments of OP-ness. This is actually pretty cool. Hardeners on, I can charge an ishukone forge with a sica and win; off, my best gunlogi gets 2-shotted. Pretty cool, really. This also evens the gap between armor and shield tanks which I absolutely love.
Tanks are also VERY fast...maybe too fast. I'm not asking for a crazy nerf, but maybe a 15% reduction to nitrous and 5% to overall top speed.
The damage and rendering changes have also made drop ships useless. They get one shorter by sicas 600m away. Not happy about that. Drop ships need a general 100% buff to base HP.
Small rails seem more accurate. Rendering changes are great. Blaster hit detection is awesome.
Overall, great patch. A couple things need buffs, a couple need nerfs, and ultkmately, I miss being an elitest tank ***hole. Tanks have never been so easy to use so often, but they've also never been so hard to stand out with. I want my sagaris back.

pretty good unbiased review of it.
tanks are a little fast, and the tank itself as you said isn't OP. it's really just how many tanks you can put onto the field. when you have like 4+ tanks on one team, then that's when they start to seem overpowered.
Tell me, how exactly DOES a biscuit gain Valor?

Tanks just got a small speed nerf during downtime today. Take to the field again and see if the difference is what you want or a little bit less

I like the DS commentary. I don't know what they're considered now, but classifying them as medium aerial vehicles and giving them a HP buff would be nice. A new, smaller frame for the assault DS would be welcomed by their pilots too.

Dropships aren't useless. I'm using all militia equipment and i'm getting some fun results. I've been scanning mostly, and while it's not game changing, it helps some and it's a fun break from the assault role.
I've found staying extremely low can actually increase survivability by a good amount, and i've been flying dropships as if they were tanks, using buildings as cover and what not. I've got a Grimsnes with 4410 armor and that thing can take 3-5 hits from a rail tank back to back.
Of course, this is all situational. Sometimes I can roam fairly freely without worry, sometimes i'm blown out of the sky within 30 seconds of taking off.
