I certainly do. Once you get to standing 10, the LP payout from a loss will be equivalent to something along the lines of 90,000 ISK (assuming you spend it on the 'best deals', based on reasoning in this thread). If you're in a lower standings bracket, which most/all of us are at this point, it's worth less.
So, if I can see that the likelihood of my team winning the match is pretty low, I cut my losses. In the time that I would have spent running out the clock for well under half the payout of a pub, I can run an ambush in cheap fits, and make plenty of ISK to subsidize later FW attempts.
Who sticks it out, and why? I'm assuming there are a few RPers, and those who really need the specialist weapons for PC matches, but the incentive system just seems out of whack for the rest of us.
RDVs are a failed experiment - can't we just remove them from the game?

Yeah, I've been thinking about this. My first thought it they might remove the option to leave the battle...but then you'll just get rubber-bank AFKers, or the equivalent running around in the redline to avoid more dying. Or, they could make it so you could leave, but you'd be stuck in your merc quarters until the match was over. That seems like pretty weak/bad game design, though...you'd just end up with people leaving the game altogether. They could also deduct standing for desertion, but you wouldn't want to punish players who had internet hiccups and disconnects...and if you only applied the desertion for manually leaving, people would just turn off their internet to force a disconnect. I don't know of a good 'stick', and I'd rather them use a carrot anyway.
