Public contracts give isk sp officer equipment salvage
faction gives LP - purchase better proto gear sp crap salvage
so which would you rather have. Officer equipment or better proto gear? Any other reason to play faction over public? |

I've been playing since Uprising and have capped just about every week since. I've probably salvaged around 100 officer weapons. This means I've been awarded 3 of them in about 33 games out of the total number of games I've played of Dust 514. You probably have just about as much of a chance to acquire officer weapon from someone using it in FW than you do in a pub match.
One thing also to consider is that you frequently get prototype weapons and suits in FW salvage on a game-to-game basis. I get salvage in pub matches maybe 1 in every 5 games or so? Maybe I'm wrong about these probabilities but my point is you're almost guaranteed something decent in salvage during FW and hardly ever in pubs.
I think the most important thing about ISK is it can be used anywhere and I'm starting to sort of lose sight of that as I play FW because I only really use fittings from the factions I fight for (min/gal). This works out well for me but not always the case for everyone (say someone who plays gal/cal).
Overall I think that the standing grind, whether or not you think it's worth it or not aside, is just another thing to aspire to so that the game does not only seem like an ISK/SP grind. It's mainly for this reason that I try to play FW as often as possible and make the best out of the LP stores. |

Only the specialist weapons are better proto gear, everything else is the same proto gear with lower skill requirements, which is pointless when a lot of the older players have already spent the skill points into these skills. Plus the LP payout does not buy you nearly as much gear as you could get with the ISK payouts.

Oh, from what i read it seemed like they were saying that faction gear = proto gear but with lower fitting requirements which I took to mean lower pg/cpu requirements.

Because you don't get paid properly.
It's impossible for FW to fund itself without the player market - and even when that market comes, with the current state of LP rewards it's still going to be low reward.
Despite the high risk, FW is most definitely a low reward business.

Yes. There are two kinds of equipment available: - Factional gear that has reduced skill requirements, but has the same fitting (CPU/PG) - Factional Specialist weapons that are equivalent to Prototype weapons (same skill requirements) but with reduced CPU/PG (roughly equivalent to fitting an Advanced weapon.)
Dbukalski wrote:And am i getting officer drops in public contracts? are thales officer gear? Because if yes I get lots of officer gear
Thales, Balac's, Cala's, Gastun's, Krin's, etc are all Officer weapons. I believe that they are just as likely to drop in FW (not certain, of course) but FW itself has an actual item drop rate (ie, items of the enemies destroyed have a 25% chance of being recovered as salvage, whereas Public Contracts do not have this.)
Dbukalski wrote:Would you guys prefer officer gear or faction gear?
Officer gear should not be available for purchase in any way, shape or form. It is head and shoulders above every comparable weapon of the same type in some way. I would like to see all weapons get Officer variants, but there should only be one way to acquire such items: salvage (until Player Market comes out, at which point you're trading, not creating new ones.) |
