I once had a chat with a guy who thought that placing uplinks in highly exposed locations was a smart tactic because it gets him more points if he can get lots of teammates killed & force respawns.
I told him he needed to adjust his moral compass.
This was an extreme case I know. However, we all know there are lots of uncaring or uninformed players dropping uplinks in terrible locations.
I started imagining, What if the uplink deducted 2-5 points from the guy who dropped the link, for any friendly's death that spawned on the link within the prior 3 or 5 seconds.
Imagine how conscientious players would become about choosing protected or hidden spots. |

Imagine how conscientious players would become about choosing protected or hidden spots. If you are playing ambushes the obvious smart tactic (when attempting to cap) is to make sure the uplinks are exposed and quite short spawns (Ishukone Gagued or the Allotek Flux Uplinks). This allows efficiency at Jenzaing. Better yet is to place them in a pile at the one location with 2 Wyrkomi and 2 Allotek Nanohives as well to provide yourself with Triage and Resupply WP as well, making it quite efficient to build up enough WP for a solo OB before the match is over (to drop on your uplinks because thats where the enemy will be).
As to your suggestion, spawn camping happens all-the-time! Punishing the Logi who picks a bad spot is a poor choice as it reduces the amount of WP available to that squad to drop an OB on the enemy and possibly costing the team the match.
****Disclaimer: This is not a tactic I advocate, but have seen done many, many, many times that usually results in the Blueberry team winning because the survival rate from the fast spawns is high when combined with the triage hives, usually 3 or 4 people all doing this in an area that is small and clustered will result in high survival possibilities, more than one logi is needed to make this a viable win tactic that works even better under cover****

I appreciate your detailed response. I have trouble however with the concept (and I've heard it from others before) of using uplink points to help get orbitals.
The reason is the comparative value in the kills. I know you are NOT suggesting that the uplinks are the only way to the orbital and they do of course help. However, the math, comparatively, leads one to believe it's horribly inefficient.
For instance, if we did only have uplinks as a way to get points for the orbital, we would need to kill and revive 96 clones to get 2400 war points.
Now, we both know how many kills an average orbital gets. I've seen a few good ones, but the average, can we agree, is probably 5-7 kills at best, AVERAGE for an obital? So you trade 96 of your teammates for 5-10 of the enemy. IF that were the only way to get the orbital.
But you see how bad the idea is of piling up drop links with the intention of killing off team mates to get an orbital? It's just a terrible idea that is horribly mathmatically inefficient and unjustifiable.
Be well....

I understand the math but can efficiently gain OB's solo in a match running a locked single man squad. Basically it is about knowing what to logi and how to logi to build your WP. I won't share all my secrets with someone from another corp, but if you are interested, BurgezzE.T.F is recruiting and would love to help you learn to be all you can be.
