So recently I've been interacting with some wonderful people from the PIE ground control channel who have been trying to provide a lot of orbital support for the (constantly failing) amarr FW squads... and one of the things that they've been asking is well 'how the hell do orbitals work for you dustbunnies?, what do they do?, why do you want them? why would you choose non-damaging orbitals? and occasionally 'WHY AM I NOT GETTING KILLS, R U DUSTBUNNIES BAD?!?'.
My proposition is to make orbital strikes slightly more tactical in their use and to ease burden of knowledge for eve pilots - when an orbital is earned, allow squadleaders to select between one of two options - A) the damage dealing orbital (like the hybrid and laser strikes we've come to know and love) or B) a support oriented orbital like the projectile emp strikes we're also quite fond of.
When either of these is requested, a message pops up to the pilot in space with the information of either "Damage strike requested" and the squadleaders name, or "Support strike requested" also followed by the squadleaders name.
In the case of the projectile weapon strikes it actually allows those pilots get their delicious killmails, as well as be a major asset to the team and in the case of lasers and hybrids it provides a bit more tactical versatility.
I have no real ideas for *what* exactly the hybrid and laser support strikes should do, but that doesn't really need to be solved by me. |

You might be forgetting that atm the type of strike you get is determined by the weapons being used by the particular pilot. If you have 1 pilot sitting up there connected to the district in a minmatar projectile ship, he can ONLY give you the emp strike. For the damage strike he'd have to disconnect and go switch weapons/ships or yield the strike to a different pilot.
Just pointing out it's not a quick fix. It would be nice if each weapon category could provide different strike types based on different ammo though. |

Since we're talking about switching up Orbitals- how about an obfuscation strike- an orbital that would make it more difficult for the enemy to pass through an area. Something like a Chicken Strike.
After requesting a Chicken Strike a hundred chicken clones are beamed down in the area making it harder to pass through. Each chicken can be shot (worth 1/2 WP and 1 SP) and is capable of inflicting 1 dp/s to armor, 1/2 dp/s to shields.
Of course, I'm sure that would introduce lag, but it could be worth it. |

Swarms do need more range, but rendering needs to be fixed. It's one if the reasons why they were nerfed in the first place. Travel time could use some work if they're going to have the current range for a while.
I tried to put a level into Amarr Commando once, but got a server notification saying "Why?"

You are really missing the point of the topic. |
