CCP Remnent wrote:The ScoutGÇÖs not gotten too much love in recent months. What started out as a bullet-strafing monster back in Chromosome has slowly been marginalized as other aspects of the game have been worked on and improved. IGÇÖm happy to say that soon the Scout class should be wholly rejuvenated (or at the very least, be in a much better place). The introduction of cloaking equipment and revamped bonuses should help the Scout find his rightful place in the battlefield hierarchy. To me, the Scout role has always been about creating a disruptive force on the battlefield. HeGÇÖs the guy that can cover enough ground quickly enough to get drop uplinks into the right places (that is, if everyone didnGÇÖt carry one, but more on that later), hack objectives back, disperse squad members (nothing makes people scatter faster than a KC-amped shotgunner) and generally make a nuisance of himself.
The Scout role will get very high PG/CPU bonuses to fitting cloak equipment, making it just about the only role that can feasibly fit a cloak field without having to sacrifice the rest of its fit. Individual race skill bonuses will create opportunities for cloaked scouts to scan further and longer than other dropsuits, to have less GÇ£shimmerGÇ¥ as they move, and have lower innate scan profiles so that they can be visually and electronically invisible. These should help create more useful assassins, intel gatherers, and saboteurs. And in time, the introduction of additional Scout specializations will be added to further push the boundaries of the little Light Suit That Could.
CCP Remnent wrote:Use of equipment is obviously encouraged but abuse of any system to the point where itGÇÖs detrimental to gameplay is obviously a problem. So, yeah, itGÇÖs definitely an issue. WeGÇÖd like to approach the problem by first increasing the PG/CPU costs along with role-specific skills that reduce those costs to discourage mass fitting of drop uplinks and nanohives, and put them back into the hands of the specialists. Eventually, weGÇÖd want to introduce the ability for the enemy to hack a piece of equipment and take ownership of it (to encourage smarter placement of equipment instead of dumping dozens in plain sight) and have War Barge-fired EMP strikes that destroy all equipment over a very large area Dev Blog
OH HELLZ YEA!!!! Being a scout is great but after all of this, lol, damn it's gonna be da ish!
How you guys feel about this? Please make sure your comments are relative to above quotes which are responses to question six (6) and eight (8).

My point being that I dislike the idea of shield-only damage because it's inherently unbalanced.

I think its a good thing that were being buffed finally but at the same time...I kinda like playing as the tough suits. Especially the ones that are seen as laughable. Ive been creative, dirty, and outright nasty to other players on the field in a moment of underestimation of my suit. Once we get buffed we will see an influx of scouts to the battlefield unfortunately...Were not going to be those few anymore, we will be another scout unless people know us personally from back this far. Im going to miss it honestly. That being said, Idk if anyone remembers my name from games anyway.

I get how you feel. I've always told meh DUST friends that the funnest thing about being a scout is doing the impossible. When we get balanced the things we do will no longer be seen as impressive. I've gotten a double kill on two heavies, knifed a guy in the open and got away, out ran an entire squad while placing uplinks, I could go on and on.
Either way it will be nice to be using a "real" class as it's the only class I role with exclusively.

My biggest impossiblity done with the scout was killed 7 players in the time of one full second, clearing a room. I wish my capture card was working right then. One of those slowmo moments in your own mind, you know? Lets just say re's and doging a hail of gunfire from all dirrections. Best part is, I survived and my group took the uplink

I for one welcome our new scout overlords.
Just kidding. I'll be one-shotting you with my Sniper Rifle, just like I did back in Chromosome.

The real scouts will continue using it, the others will flock back once they realize they cant tank bullets to their back side anymore and turn around like it was someone tickling them.

In other words: they knowingly released an unbalanced game and think it's fine to not give more respecs?
Also who needs longer/better scan ranges on a suit if one guy in your squad can ruin everything with one standard scanner? |

Scout gameplay will still require scout tactics, even with the supposedly coming buffs. Those of us that are left have honed this playstyle to perfection and know what will work or not with the new equipment. Logis, assaults and heavies who may well flock to the scout when we start pounding them from our hidden corners left, right and center will quickly find out that they still can't do jack s**t and will return to their beefy med/large frames in tears.
