So I am finally getting around to re-skilling my vehicle alt. I prefer to armor tank so as to be able to repair hull damage. But I also like flying my ADS where blasters and rails have always been a far cry from missiles. So my question is, as far as ADS's go are rails useful now? |

Rails are great at taking out shield vehicles, and ok at harassing armor vehicles. You'll want to skill small turrets to 5 and pick up missiles if you have the SP though, although if you don't, a militia missile launcher will do.
Blasters are all but entirely useless on the dropship, so the Incubus has no built in anti infantry, unlike the python which has anti infantry and anti vehicle in one. I start the match in my railgun Incubus, kill some installations, and see how many vehicles the enemy calls out. If there aren't many, I recall my Incubus, then call in the one with the militia missile launcher and generally get 20+ kills in a match with it. Missiles are still wicked OP.

Shame to have to give up the racial bonus just to be useful against infantry. |

Shame to have to give up the racial bonus just to be useful against infantry. It really is, but it's our only option. There may be 2 or 3 players in all of DUST that can somehow get blasters to work vs infantry, but other than that it simply isn't going to happen. Railguns in theory can work vs infantry, but in practice it's entirely random and more frustrating than anything.
So, missiles it is

I used to go 20+ a match with blasters before the 1.4 issues showed up. Pre 1.4 blasters had a little splash and so you didn't need direct hits all the time, after 1.4 they were just utter ****, you had no splash, also 1 in 10 shots would only register. Now 1.7, hit detection for small blasters is awesome, but because of no splash... you need all direct hits to kill which os pretty hard. For the love of god CCP bring back pre 1.4 blasters!

I still run blasters and railguns, use it mainly on lone targets.

I can barely see the tiny dot to aim with that blends into my white ship, nevermind when hardeners are up I just straight up can't see it. So, trying to hold still to aim at infantry, while the ship is being knocked around by the gun itself as it shoots (railguns at least), and having to maintain pinpoint accuracy.....seems like a hell of a lot of work for something militia missiles do infinitely better.

I was hoping they did something about the aim point getting hidden.
