A single redline rail tank can still deny the whole battle field to dropships. It only takes 2-3 shots even against proto fitted dropships and hardeners, which comes out to about a second of firing, with range that can literally span the whole map. I am powerless to do anything to them from the sky because of the redline, their high health and regen, my low dps and limited ammo, and their speed.
So I did what I had to. I picked up rail tanking.
It's the easiest thing in the world. I just use my militia fit Sica and within two matches, I have 7 rail tank kills and was only hit once. Camp the redline watching the overview map until one of those cowards decides to rear it's ugly head, come at it at an odd angle and/or peak from behind cover, 1 2 3, dead rail tank.
However, since I'm a man of honor and do not wish to become a hypocrite, I only attack either enemy rail tanks or tanks when they've been spammed (GëÑ4 on the field).
This actually has a second benefit. Since I don't die as much and tanks cost so little, I'm saving money to finance my more noble career as a dropship pilot.
So rail tankers beware.

As I dropship pilot I've spent nearly two years trying to find the words to describe the hatred I feel in my belly for large rail guns.
I've yet to be able to express it in any way other than pure unbridled rage.

Redline Railgun Turret Installations don't cost a single SP to run vehicles off of a map. Know your maps, there's always one great one.

Missiles aren't so bad. They have low alpha, and make noise, so you know when to activate your modules.
Large rails will cut through your shields without warning, frequently cause you to tip sideways, and sometimes you don't even know which direction you were hit from. |

I rail at CQC ranges.
Do I count?

Just tonight I was playing a skirmish on that map, and was being hit by rail shots coming through the facility. Kudos to them for being a good shot, but it made it near impossible to do anything with my ship.
It's really very easy to craft a no fly zone, and there's very little that can be done about it since the turrets or tanks in question are deep in the enemy redline. |
