I'm somewhat new and have a grasp on the basics, but there are still things I don't understand, like...
1. What is the purpose of FW's other than earning LP?
2. what is the purpose of the Starmap? Nothing ever seems to change on it no matter how many FW contracts I do, and it seems pointless to try to find a battle with it.
I have other things but for the life of me I can't think of them at the moment. |

The main reason for FW for Mercs is to earn LPs. Otherwise it's to support Factional Warfare in EVE (basically, in EVE the pilots fight over the systems. In Dust, we fight over the planets in those systems. It's help the pilots take over the system)
The Starmap lets you look at how big EVE is and dream of the days when we'll actually be able to do stuff other than hit a button and get to shoot at people.
People ask me, "Why do you fight?" I reply. "Why do you not?"

So, there is no benefit for dust players other than LP in FW's? That's.... disappointing. It wouldn't be so bad if they added ISK along with LP that way i wouldn't have to alternate so often just so I can restock my dropsuit. |

That's the point. It's supposed to be an ISK sink.

Oh right, completely my bad. :)
The Learning Coalition is a group of many different informal training corporations, designed to be an alternative to DUST University. Classes aren't mandatory, and it's a no-commitment system, meaning you can join up, ask a question, get an answer, and then leave. HOWEVER, joining us for longer periods of time will get you a better education, of course.
To join up with us- 1) Press Select to open up your chat 2) On the side-bar, scroll down to the very last option: "Create/Join". Press X. 3) There'll be a black text box, press X while high-lighting it and type in "Learning Coalition" (No quotation marks). 4) Enjoy!
Also, we have an information thread in the Rookie Training Grounds section of the forum, so I suggest you go check that out.

Start squadding up. Use local chat and squad finder, find a corp. Dust University is great for newer players, they can show you the ropes!

They will be adding a Player to Player market soon where you can sell all that salvage you get from Faction Warfare, which will allow you to make ISK in FW as well as LP.
The market was not finished yet, so they implemented FW without it. So for a little while we will have to get our ISK through Public matches.

For the Factional portion of the Starmap, it doesn't change because the Gallente and Minmatar have such a huge grasp on FW as a whole. Even in Eve, pretty much everyone fights for the Gallente/Minmatar. Caldari and Amarr get left out, because they are portrayed as the bad guys, and only the best RP'ers fight for the Amarr.
The Corporation portion of the Starmap changes according to PC. Whenever one of the corps on the Starmap take a district, it changes. The Atlas part, I believe, is who controls what in Eve.
