Once player trading is hooked up and market pvp begins, the guys who consider earned in-game to be 'free' will **** up the markets they sell in. Similar flawed math buggers up the ore markets in eve constantly. Luckily in there you can prey on them by putting up piles of super cheap buy orders in the right place. tl;dr : time is not free
I LOL at miners who think the ore they mine is free. I'm a dedicated mining player as well as a dedicated market trader and I can tell you that mining ore is never free. Why? Like you said, the time you invest in earns you the ISK and we all know that time is ISK in Eve.
This is the biggest mistake I often see with these "free ore" miners. They don't take advantage of the market forces and just want to get the ISK now rather than later even though they already have hundreds of millions of ISK squirreled away. This is something market traders like me often enjoy taking advantage of while the ore I sell are put up as marked-up sell orders.
Anyways, back on topic.
Once the Dust secondary market hits and boosters can be traded between players like regular market commodities, the whole "this is pay-to-win" argument will fall apart because then players with no lives who squirreled away a ton of ISK will be able to acquire AUR items from the players. It's just like the PLEX market in Eve Online. It's balanced and it brings benefits to both players and CCP.
OK, CCP. When are knives finally going to be improved?

Added note: This is directed not to you, but to those that keep calling AUR gear as "pay to win". Personally, I bought AUR to support the game, as well did many others. I have seen game reviews that state you can get aurum items that are far better than any isk variant, absolutely ridiculous and part of me assumes they are butthurt noobs who sucked and went out of their way to try and kill dust, I find it hard to believe that someone who specialises in game reviews (must look great on their curriculum vitae lol) could be so ignorant.
The problem with those "Dust is Pay-to-Win" reviews is that the authors of those reviews don't seem to spend enough time to understand the whole game which that alone would have showed them that this game is not pay-to-win. In fact, they often don't bother considering CCP's plans for the future and as a result their reviews get skewed or become a bit biased.
But to be fair to the reviewers, CCP did make some slip ups with the AUR items. CCP promised they would never introduce pay-to-win items in the game where they had no ISK equivalent but then later on they screwed up and accidentally released a couple of AUR items that were inadvertently better than their ISK variant or didn't have ISK variant. Contact grenades come to mind as an example. Thankfully, CCP fixed them but not before the reviewers got the wrong impression because of the slip up.
OK, CCP. When are knives finally going to be improved?
