I was told in IRC by a CCP who will remain un-named, but I will troll later, that we were going to get Skyfire batteries to counter EvE support. Was this an out-right lie?

I am assuming this is old data.
The skyfire gear is more long term plan.

Soon(TM) actually. No plans yet. I think we MAY get them in one of the upcoming patches as part of the FW update. So people who don't have an alliance / orbital support are able to fight back in PC / FW. |

Announced roughly a year ago, it was one of the things like full racial vehicles, PVE, MTAC's, etc. CCP expected to be done by now but...

It's on the roadmap but not short term goal, and honestly it should not be a short term goal.
While it is a very cool idea, there are far too many core mechanics for THIS game to work on, and from what I've heard the technical mechanics of making Orbital Artillery work are actually pretty complicated.
So yes, it is something they want to do, but don't expect it for a very long time.

You seem to be a little behind the times. At the 16 second mark of this:

They even use the term "skyfire battery" in the E2 2011 trailer.

You guys seem confused. I was, a month ago, informed by a certain CCP everyone knows and loves that skyfire batteries would be added in december. I made a big troll point about in IRC and got a "FFS YES IT IS" answer in response from him.
