Some thoughts, and questions, about these two guns. mostly the CR.

Disclaimer: I dont like the regular combat rifle. that burst thing, with pathetic damage, is just really annoying to me.
Disclaimer2: I havent skilled into SMG heavily myself.

I have HEARD, and observed, however, that if you cap out sharpshooter and ops skill for submachine gun, that you get a pretty impressive little weapon, for ranges up to about 30m.
A weapon very much like, in fact... the assault combat rifle?

can anyone who has got both to decent levels, compare the two?

I'm guessing that fully skilled submachine gun, is a lot like assault combat rifle on low skills.
So I'm guessing then, that fully skilled assault CR, is rather like "Super Submachine Gun".

Disclaimer for anyone who is interested in poking at the CR, who hasnt started:

you need skill level *4*, to get the assault CR. and then there's 5 levels of sharpshooter, and 5 levels of proficiency, to deal with.

plus..the thing is Freakin Expensive!! :(

I really like the look, sound, and "feel", of it, though.
Unlike the regular CR, it has iron sights. but "nice" iron sights. with a littletiny glowy thingie on the end for precision aim.
I started up an alt to get to it. You can just barely unlock it that way.

The Assault CBR is like a tiny Balac's AR. I don't know if you've ever USED a Balac's AR, but they're deadly. Duvolles on steroids.

Increased spread, damage, RoF, clip size, ammo pool, etc. There is no downside to using a Balac's. Thankfully, the A-CBR is a little bit more friendly than that, having decreased damage by about 40 HP/b (That's HP per bullet).

I'll make an alt and skill into the thing, when I do, I'll get back to you. :)

 oh, 'nuther question:

on SMG, for example: jdoes having sharpshooter 5, make the tac stats change, as far as the distance for when it starts falling below 100% damage?

Quil, I don't have Sharpshooter 5, but I can tell you that Operations 5 dominates at a pretty long range. I've gotten kills so far as 25+ meters before. With an SMG, that's impressive.

I know it ccan do stuff at range. I was just wondering if the in batle tactical readout reflects that.

I have 666 likes. Earlier I had 666 armor remaining. I think 1.7 has brought a satanic presence into my soul. >:D

Tactical Readout SHOULD tell you, but if it doesn't, I have an example of how inaccurate it is.

I was running GEK, and testing my range (ADS at friendly turret, and then walk backwards until your "Effectiveness Rating" starts to drop), even outside of my effective range (When the TACNET Readout disappears), I could still fire and I could still get hit markers, and I could still see it turns toward me. So if TACNET says you're out of range, it's unlikely TACNET knows what it's saying.

I still love the SMG better. It is esp. Fun with a light suit. Next to sniper rifle I get more kills with the smg at CQ than with any AR et al.

I suggest you get some of those skills up for the SMG. It's the "little engine that could" weapon. In many tight spots, running low on ammo (in a time when I used only the gallente ARs), a quick switch to the SMG and it's tight fire dispersion pulled out surprising wins in 1 on 1 combat. And like the post above me stated, its good for those CQC moments. It's great to have at your side.
