Wouldn't it be bad for EVE pilots to openly state in a public channel their exact location where they will be providing orbital support?

The mechanics have absolutely changed (for FW). Consider that Orbitals are no longer tied to the WP gained during the match. Consider that the act of obtaining an orbital is handled entirely EVE side with the capturing of a satellite above a given district. Consider that, after obtaining an Orbital, every Squad on that side of the faction can request its deployment. Consider that, if gone uncontested, an EVE pilot gets access to a new Orbital every 3 minutes.
How can you say the mechanics haven't changed? They've COMPLETELY changed.

The problem with public channels like this in eve is spies - especially because in order to launch an OB for someone in FW a person has to be part of that militia... and well if you put gallente and caldari militia's in the same channel together... or you put amarr and minmatar militia's in the same channel together, you get people who will go out of their way to get quick and easy kills on each other (because destroying opposing militia ships also earns you LP's).
Honestly, I expect that after the first few days almost no one will be launching OB's for people, unless they're dust alts. Things might be a bit different if FW players eve side could arrange for special contracts that allowed us dustbunnies to target specified systems. Or things might be a bit different if us dustbunnies could actually choose the systems we're working on converting. |

Totally accurate. Several folks have already built up relations with pilots and have moved to specific channels for this reason.
There are actually faction separate channels that I've made that I will keep open for the time being, but I suspect these will quickly become obsolete compared to the channels that Dusters and Capsuleers make for themselves. Just a bit a of a launching point.
Faction specific channels:
"Dust OB Minmatar/Gallente" and "Dust OB Amarr/Caldari"
These channels have been around since the beta, but I'll be looking for some new moderators in the faction channels.

Yeah, I'm hoping to do a Dust side part in the future, but there is no easy way to track who calls in the OB and how many kills they get dust side.
