Pay to win usually means you need to buy items with real money in order to have a real advantage. For instance, I can normally get a sword with +1 damage, but I can get a sword +2 damage only with real money. therefore, the guy who spends money on the +2 sword has an advantage that the guy who didn't spend money cannot overcome. The +2 sword guy paid to win the fight.
Thus, Pay to Win, or P2L as it's often abbreviated. |

AHA, this? http://i.imgur.com/hNbSNFZ.jpg Technically, this is not pay to win. you can get an equivalent item without spending real money. The only advantage the aurum items offer is letting you get them faster. once you skill up enough to use the regular item, they lose their value.
Even boosters aren't pay to win. You can gain the same number of skillpoints without boosters. Boosters only let you get them faster. |

And honestly, if you have to use Aurum to use proto, when you skill into the ISK proto, your skills give you an edge over the guy that needed Aurum for his.

Boosters not being purchasable with ISK makes it pay to win. Pay to get better core skills with better weapons, faster than you can with in-game currency is Pay to Win. Maybe not by traditional standards, but it is. They just convinced you all through clever wording that it isn't.

People really think boosters are not pay-2-win .........
Do we play the same game ???? because in the dust I know, boosters are clearly P2W |

The whole thing was a retorycal question, obviously i do know what is p2w, all i wanted to prove is that aur protos is pay to win, a kid gets ingame, and because on counter strike he used aimbot and wallhack, neither things exist on dust, he needs to get momma's credit car to kill some stuff.
I understand aur basic gear, aur packs, aur vehicles, but all basic, not pr0 stuff... as i see it, its just the clear example of advantage over your foe's, in all other games with real money you get that fancy swimsuit for your sexy elf, or that black dye thats gonna make your rogue's shoulders so cool, or those shinny fooprints, not a better sword, or a better staff...

boosters are not P2W they are "Pay For Short-cut"(P4S), a P2W booster would instantly give you the SP and you would be able to buy as many of them a mouth. as it is there is a advantage but its not overwhelming,
scenario: I will the lottery
P2W : I get my friends to play dust telling them I will bank roll them I spend -ú1000+ per a player on instant SP boosters, I now have a corp of X mercs that are 1 day old but have 50+ mill SP
P4S: I get my friends to play dust telling them I will bank roll them I spend -ú1000+ per a player on Omega boosters (both passive and active), I now have a corp of X mercs that if they work hard will have 50mil SP in a years time |

Boosters and aurum items are more of a gray area between true P2W and pure free to play. Unless you wish to see adverts then CCP has to pay for the game somehow, and that somehow is aurum. With the new factional warfare changes it looks like an open market will be coming to Dust probably within a few months, and with an open market allows pure F2P people to buy boosters off of others for ISK. The cost will probably be steep but you will be getting the benefit of real world money for free.
*The idea with the new factional warfare changes is that eventually you will be able to support yourself by selling faction gear on the market and thereby not need to play public matches. This will hopefully draw stuff proto-stopping squads away from less skilled players. |

Also, they need to make money somehow...

Wrong. Boosters don't give you anything you can't obtain for free. Dust is not Pay2Win

Let me put it this way:
Random kid starts playinbg, he has no skill points, but he needs his win button, he grabs momma's credit card, DUVOLLE STRIKE.
He paid to win, in a couple months he wont need to, but he did pay rl cash to get the best rifle, thing that, at that moment he couldnt get any other way.

Boosters don't give you anything you can't obtain for free. Dust is not Pay2Win Thats not true, yes you can obtain the SP without boosters, but with a player who has started playing at the beginning of OPEN BETA, boosted the entire time and continues to now boost there is no way to catch him at all, meaning PAY-TO-WIN. They would have double the max SP of any one who has played the same length of time without boosters and possibly more as the incentive to play while boosted is higher when you have capped. So if your argument that Boosters don't enable pay to win, explain please how to get a booster that does the same as an aurum paid booster (30 day passive + 30 day active). Currently there is no way to earn them on the field and no way to purchase these for isk.

LP Boosters; which will net you 25% more LP. When the secondary market is released, the people using LP boosters will be able to put their LP items on the market with a margin of 25% over everyone who is trying to compete with the brutality of a player economy - thus making it pay to win in the economical prospects.

Yes that is Pay to win. Nobody bothers to look closely enough at the construct weapons but they have a higher meta level and thus are more efficient than any other proto type weapons, even if it isn't much it is still a tincie bit higher quality of a weapon
But yes, skill boosters are the most common pay to win, that and blueprints. I love my Blueprints

You guys are focusing too much on the SP, the issue here is the proto aur gear, not the boosters.
EVE has been live for 10 years now, there is people with 200.000SP, my toon has 44.000SP, yes, he can fly a dreadnaught, a supercarrier, even a titan, and i dont, but I'm not going to face him with those ships... if i face him it would be with battleships, cruisers or frigates... and with these ships we are even, because we both have had enough time to train the core and support skills, the difference here will be the fitting, and the skill of each player, not the total ammount of SP.
So, as i said already, the issue here is the aur proto gear, someone with just 5.000SP gets ingame, pays, and has proto gear, and proto gear is OP, and he hasnt earned it by throwing hours to the game, he just paid.
