While scanning the forums I came across yet another "Help the newbs" thread. The fact that the community as a whole wants to help them is great so I figured I'd do a little brain storm.
Currently there are only a few ways to help them
- CCP give longer academy time = more SP and personal experience = greater chance of survival
- One-on-one support: Take time to aid them yourself.
- Post in the Training Grounds. unfortunately newbs normally ignore the forums for quite some time (this is true for almost every game).
I was thinking of taking '3' a step further by adding a "Pro Tips" section in the social tab in-game. Players would be able to give there advice about the game so that the newbs aren't completely in the dark.
"What if the advice is garbage or just trolling"
I say incorporate a "Quality" system that allows players to gauge how helpful the advice is. The more thumbs ups, the higher the quality of the advice and the advice will be higher up on the list of Tips. Thumbs downs will cause the quality to decrease until 0 after which more thumbs downs could cause the Tip to be deleted.
Example:
TIP
Use mlt (militia) gear in order to save up ISK (in-game Currency) to buy better gear.
[50 thumbs up] = Quality(50) (This TIPs quality is higher than any other TIP in the list and therefore is placed on top)
(This tip, do to a random patch, is no longer valid so the community begins to thumbs down the TIP)
[15 thumbs down] = Quality(35) (This tip is dropped a few spaces in the list of tips as it no longer has the highest quality)
(Players that gave a thumbs up are changing there minds and giving thumbs downs)
[20 thumbs up lost] = Quality(25) | [20 more thumbs down] = Quality(-5)
When a TIP's quality reaches -10 the TIP is deleted.
As you can see from the above, you can change your vote at anytime. Players votes are connected to there PSN and not there individual characters so as to prevent (or reduce) troll votes.
I feel this system could really help the new players while also possibly teaching players that's been here a while something new.
So what do you guys think?
If you dislike then please say why.
Do you have a suggestion for helping the new players other then what's listed? Please feel free to post here.
