A good player can get it done consistently with or without proto.
I tried to put a level into Amarr Commando once, but got a server notification saying "Why?"

I consider myself not to be a FOTM chaser, but rather someone who likes the challenge of prototype stompers. I only use advanced or basic suits, but if you fit them right, they are almost as effective, plus you do better because you make a lot of profit even when you die two or three times. FOTM players just spec into whatever looks good enough to stomp in.

Good player: Somebody good at the game.
FOTMer: A player using a fit that currently has an overwhelming or obvious advantage against others; a cookie-cutter build.
Someone in a FOTM fit isn't automatically a FOTMer. If they've been using it before it was popular (put up dem hipster glasses, yo), like with Scrambler Rifles, they're just doing what they do.

What about a good player who spec'd into the FOTM long before it was FOTM and now gets hatemail because he uses the FOTM?

A good player is someone who accidently trend sets fotm then the ones you kill wearing the fotm easily are the ones who are true fotm. A good player will beat you in several engagements to your few. That's how I see it.

A good player chooses a weapon based on ot fitting his playstyle not because its currently very good
any one who successfuly use flaylock pc bova knives scr pistol sucesfully are definitely good
