I've been doing exceptionally well with it since they changed the mechanics a bit back a few patches.
ADV + 2 damage mods + level 5 proficiency = Perfect
The Carthum is pretty awesome too, but I can't afford 77k isk for a weapon. However it does feel like it has less kick, or maybe just more damage at range or something. The Carthum is a beast at close and long ranges while the ADV is only good at close-medium ones.
There are so many things right with this weapon compared to the AR. Shorter reload + bigger clip + more damage + slower fire rate = more time spent shooting and less time reloading. The presence of kick prevents it from killing you from across the map easily while the overheat keeps it from being spammed up close.
Even after 1.7 hits and I skill into the combat rifle, this weapon will still be in my fittings somewhere.
I do see an increase of its usage a bit more than I used to, but I never see anyone really do super well with it like I do. So far I've only seen one other person use it to the extent that I do, and even then they were running alongside someone with a duvolle. Is this really a rare weapon or am I not running into the right players?

I do. well sometimes at least.
I use the Carthum Assault ScR Rifle with one damage mod (scout gk.0, so I only get one high) and proficiency 5.
again this is when I use it, though.
Tell me, how exactly DOES a biscuit gain Valor?

It's my main gun on my logi and scout suit.
But I use the regular scram rifle on my assault suit.

When I want easier than easy mode, I hop on my alt and run amarr assault with either scr variant with damage mods.

This is not the first time I hear about it: Is there so much difference between the ADV and PRO's recoil?
I never had the chance to try the Carthum. I find the CRD-9 very enjoyable, the kick is pretty strong, but it's an assault rifle and all assault rifles are meant to be like that *cough cough CCP, cough cough*
I would like to see the 2 weapons compared. It would be cool to have a video about it.

It's not really my main weapon of choice but a solid weapon in my opinion.
But the ACOG sight on it is the best in the game. |

I really dont think the Carthum is worth it. CRD-9 with damage mod(s) is fine if you have the CPU/PG They fire nice and smooth and are easy to handle.
I think both the ScR and AScR have too much ammo and just did a request for a 10% reduction.
I will be dropping the AScR in favour of the CR but will keep the ScR on some of my scout suits. ScR is just the most versatile - shotgun to AR to Sniper all in one. |

When the overheat glitch is fixed the true place of this gun will be revealed. Now any suit can murder with it. The range buff is strange and i do not expect it to last long. |

ASCRs need a drawback, they need to overheat on their first magazine.

You are saying that CCP wants the AScR to overheat sooner?

You are not running into the right players.
I've seen some pretty ridiculous rounds by others with the SCR variants recently....and they melt through my shield tanked suits like butter.
Youtube has some impressive videos too. I recall watching one yesterday where the guy went 49-1, and I've seen more than a few 20+ 30+ and 40+ kill rounds from them lately. |

I run a very similar set up only with Prof 3. I run that weapon 90% of the time and it's done well by me. I just wanted something different than an AR and it's pretty nice. I do routinely switch to my SMG for CQC using it.
I do think that it should heat overheat if you put an entire magazine out the barrel with out coming off the trigger.
I'm likely going to be diving deep into the Rail Rifle and will set up a standard SCR fit to function as a tactical marksmen setup. |

I use the ASCR because I did not want to spec into the AR ( was a heavy HMG user)
I did the maths and the advanced does slightly less DPS than the gek and the same with the proto vs devolle.
they are harder to fit CPU/PG wise but on the plus size the slower ROF and larger clip help to make up for it.
I have a gek on my alt and the ASCR has more kick and is worse at range ( at advanced level - not tried the proto's) which makes little sense as its meant to be the other way around.
I run a advanced minmitar logi suit fitted as follows.
1 proto damage mod 2 advanced shield extenders
3 enhanced armour extenders
needle reptool nano/uplink
I do pretty well with it, but I am more of a logistics player

Love the AScR, I would be ecstatic if they would create a STD level one. I used to run the CRD9 all the time but the fitting cost just blows up my logi fits, there is simply not enough PG to go around on the A/1 logi suit if you use higher tier equipment. That plus the fact that I have higher prof in the AR kinda forced me to abandon it in favor of the GEK.
I'll go back to it once I can spare the SP to skill into higher prof and some optimization skills but for now I get more bang for the buck with the AR, especially considering it inexplicably has better range and dispersion than a laser weapon. The equation might change a little if they fixed that.
