Even with the nerfs across the board, the assault forge gun is still more powerful than any of the other variants (officer FG notwithstanding). Why, when it has the shortest charge time, does it have the most damage? Is the fact you can't hold the charge seriously that much of a drawback?

Us "fair" FGers have long since declared the Assault variants "too strong". But, people cried and cried and cried and it lead to the across board reduction to ALL the FGs, not just the variant that was causing the issue.
Welcome to AR 514, where everything that isn't a Plasma Rifle deserves to be nerfed into the ground.

The breach numbers are all higher than the Assault:
Quote: Base STD - Damage: 1320 to 1200 | Charge time: 3.5 to 4.0 ADV - Damage: 1452 to 1320 | Charge time: 3.5 to 4.0 PRO - Damage: 1584 to 1440 | Charge time: 3.5 to 4.0

im my personal experience with forge guns the assault varients have been my go to forge since early chrome as its lack of ability to hold a charge is actually its biggest advantage it is in no way a draw back and the extra damage I allways thought was the cherry on top.
When fighting on the front line (not on an unreachable rooftop) the assault varients are most effective against both vehicles and infantry. the assault forge guns in my opinion should have less direct damage than the normal varients simply because the low charge time and lack of ability to haold said charge would still give it the highest dps out of all forge guns.

I don't think this is the nerf we've been asking for, this is the nerf that's been applied to all AV weapons to adjust for the rebalanced vehicles. I suspect CCP doesn't want to chance forge guns drastically as heavies really have nothing else to turn to otherwise.

True but you would have thought that when making changes in general that they would have taken a second to think about what has been said about the AFG for months (if not years) and lowered the direct damage in order to even out the DPS with the standard variants. Good ol' CCP logic.

it might mean something if optimal, effective, maximum was ever properly implemented for them, because right now it's full damage 0-300 meters. If they actually had say... a range where they were doing 100% damage (say out to 160 for regular variants) and then a range where they started to hit the really steep falloff (say 230m) and then a range where they're doing like 10% damage (300) they might be a bit better balanced.
As it is I rarely see a forge-gunner that's not up on some impossible to hit rooftop. |

Sorry,but some us forgers are on ground. And the nerf at the time charge is deadly for ground forgers.
Math in hand:
a GEK no mod, no prof can dish out 783 DMG in the time the AFG charge.
With the 1,7 time change when facing an AR 1000,5 DMG....
And the Forge is not an HITSCAN weapon. OH and BTW, we are talking of an adv weapon with no mod or no prof. i don't even take in account SCRAM and the Future Rail. 'Cause you know, Heavy suit is like a magnet for bullets.

I think that you can't hold a charge is a benefit in this instance. The charge time is so short that it's not really a hinderance at all. By this reckoning, that charge sniper rifle, should be SERIOUSLY buffed, but, of course I would say that lol.
I agree though, the weapon is OP and seriously so, despite the smaller splash area.

I'll have to run the numbers but, man I sure do hope that this will end up making them a viable AV weapon. If the numbers come out right I'm ganna go for it.
