We got a bit of a reprieve on the last patch with a bit more armour but now with the new rifles coming in and engagement ranges increasing I find myself wishing for the old sharpshooter skill for the HMG, how many times have I found myself engaged at 30 to 40m in a street and running for cover while a lone guy with an AR pegs me, I can't stop to fire or I'll get headshot and if I advance he'll likely fall back to stay out of my optimal. Don't get me wrong put me inside of 30m and I'll shred most suits regardless of level as long as I'm using an equivalent level of gear but otherwise I'm in trouble, the ones that give me the most hassle are Gal suits with plates and Proto AR/SCR no doubt the guys are good and just peg me with headshots while I do the same but at least all their DPS goes on target I reckon the Fairies take the rest of mine.
The only HMG that really deals out the pain like I feel it should is the Gatsuns Min-7 but I don't come across them very often. It's the one fitting I have used recently against a Protobear squad in FW where they backed off, the first time in a long time when I felt that they were saying "Fcking hell lads watch out that heavy's nasty" but to have to use an Officer weapon with 2 complex damage mods to get the effect that most heavies should give in some way or another is a bit of a heartache for me at least.
I'm not the best HMG operator my main passion is the FG and Big game hunting but I ain't all that bad either. So I would have to look to folks like Lance, Smurf and DS-10 for true high end opinions on the right setup and how they perform in PC but I've got plenty of experience in Pubs and FW, and against experienced players it's not good in comparison to other setups.
Personally I think rather than looking at Heavies in the grand scheme of things CCP need to look at them singularly and decide what it should do and what it should be capable of rather than going it's got 20% more DPS than the equivalent AR setup so it's a heavy. I do understand the need for balance having reaped the battlefields in Chromosome but at least then shotgun Scouts terrified me and I scared AR users a bit.
Also who the hell implemented the Sentinel bonus of reduced feedback damage!!! For a weapon we won't have for another six months at best.... grumble grumble well I'm off to blow up vehicles for the time being.
