Seeing a few strange threads about proto gear lately. People attempting to dictate how the game should be played, imposing artificial restrictions and whatnot.
The objective is win. To win you leverage or manufacture every advantage you can. Period. This is the only rule. If someone has the SP investment and cash in pocket to drop protogear in matches, and they determine it provides and advantage, then they will.
Arguments against using an advantage are shouting at the tide to **** off and leave your beach alone.
I understand the frustration with 'protostompers' however your point of view is all wrong.
Proto gear is not an I win button for the operator, but a chance to destroy something shiny for everyone else.
Teamwork is OP, use it.

Some people just want an even playing field, can't blame them, that's what FPS games are usually about.
Some people want the challenge. Some people are jelly.
Everyone wants to play the game their own way, no harm in that. Also, it's just fun making fun of full proto squads in pubs cuz I mean, try hard much?

Not saying anything about the modules slots, but... teamfire kills anything and everything fast, and in many circumstances, a proto suits dies to a standard weapon that catches it off guard, with TTK being what it is now.

I feel for you scouts. I usually bait people who use scanners, but I use suits that can take hits long enough to do it. Light frames are just unable to do that, and I really do reach out to the scouts I run into on the field. The new scanner really is going to be a kick in a teeth for you guys, but it's not going to be common until a while from the launch of 1.7.
Here's to it never being common, because scanners are teh sux.

People need to realise DUST is (while not quite yet there) a sandbox game. Let me explain in simple terms what that means.
We have a problem. Veteran players are using advanced gear to slaughter lesser players.
Regular gaming solution: Create artificial blocks, add server filter options, protect each player group from the next.
Sandbox solution: Look to real life for guidance. Why doesn't every soldier in every army have his own tank? Cost? Yes. All sorts of logistics? Yes. Impractical? Yes. Now we can copy some of those elements into our sandbox. We still want to allow players of all ranks to play together but we want to discourage them from creating too high of a wall within a single match. To do that we could make it impractical to use certain tiers in certain places, we could give higher tier suits some disadvantages as well. Many ways to solve this and keep the sandbox concept intact.
Final words, DO NOT BREAK THE SANDBOX.

No.
This would directly affect new protogear users in a much larger way than the current users. The problem is not the cost- it's how much money these people are making from a broken mechanic that allows them to carelessly throw that same protogear away. Increasing the price of protogear punishes newer players.

Is the goal really to win? There is currently zero incentive in pub matches to actually win the match. And when I'm getting pub stomped I'll secure my team's loss by leeroying into the most expensive suit I can see over & over.
My personal victories come in the form of Isk destruction.

I have enough ISK to where it wouldn't matter. The only reason I don't use prototype gear is due to the sheer fact that I don't like how easy it is to use it, even on a gimped advanced frame. Hell, using a proto suit just makes my job way too easy. I'm going to use a figure of speech here. I don't like beating a kitten over the head with a hammer. I'd rather fisticuffs a goddamn tiger, man. I use standard because I'm not weak enough to use protogear on anything less than prototype itself.
That's how I feel. I don't like easy moding. I come from a time where people bettered themselves by setting up handicaps. People these days lack the ability and balls to do that though. To each their own, I suppose.

All hail OP, he has a good head on his shoulders.
When I first started out with Foxhound Corporation...we were ADV-gear mercenaries running in squads against Proto-gear mercenaries in pubs. We didn't wine as much as these newbies. Nah. We did wine about the only advantage a squad having was Proto-gear but that was because we were capable of winning against these punks. You know what we did? Get picked our **** up and went Proto-and-beyond. These same guys are now some of the better players in Dust. Not top ten, sure but then they don't give a damn about that.
:I I still meet up with these people and we actually use Militia to Advance-gear in pubs and stomp HARD. Teamwork is the major issue, not Proto Gear. If it was simply Proto Gear, I'd be afraid of the newb who was running a Gk.0 Logistics with high Damage Mods instead of gunning him down in cold blood with my militia fit.

No. Just no. They are expensive enough. What is missing is an ISK-sink ... and this will change next week. There will still be players with too much money. So the next best thing to solve this is the playermarket. Let people throw away their money. When they start losing it they will be more careful about what they use. |

honestly im not so entirely sure about the sandbox element the game supposedly has.
a good customizable search parameter system would be nice.
if there was specific type of gear restriction that came in the form of sp wp gear and squad type restricition.
only as a customizable search parameters system so its all optional which gives the player a better choice. this could keep player retention along with several other things.
although as this would just be optional and not forcing any1 to do anything. its not much of a massive restriction then.
although it could just be gear first then other stuff can come along later.
and this might even improve the numbers of players. although the possible consequences could be an increase in time it takes to find matches. so with the restrictions all set out and optional its not dividing the entire player base in game to only certain modes.
its just adding several easily accessible doors. so pubstomps become a lot less common. as they couldnt just choose to bring a full corp fitted out with proto gear through a mlt only/no squad door just to stomp on players new to the game. they wouldnt be able to join as that door is locked to them protecting those players because those players within that door chose to set up that restriction for them selves. |

Lol @ artificial restrictions and people telling me how to play.
Should I run only militia gear all day for a month and make another billion???? Too much isk is too much. I need to spend it somehow.
Maybe when the new fw comes out, I will spend all my time on that.... It should be the biggest isk sink with some cool rewards. If I can beef up my pc suit some more without worrying about pg and cpu.... oh lord, I will become even more op than I was before!
I wonder how many vets are going to switch over to fw completely to do their proto stomping..
Yes, It was me.
