Wow, so unforgiving we are...
CCP's approach to these typical FPS subjects (and friendly fire IS a typical FPS issue) has so far been to try introducing components that are so unexpected they are radical and often cause protests and petitions from the players at first (like the "aim-assist"). But I LIKE CCP for doing that---for me it has really generated some re-education about how I operate in a game, and how I can make my actions better for my own performance and for fellow players. I hope the upcoming friendly-fire mechanism CCP described here achieves that same innovative success, and for the time being I don't want to suggest even a single alteration.
THERE WILL BE a period of acclimation we'll have to suffer---injuring blue buddies not out of WANTING to, but just because we've been playing this game so long WITHOUT having to concentrate on controlling our fire. "NOOO, crap I caught you in the blast, dang, I'm sorry, I screwed up!" So hopefully when you get "fragged by CELESTA AUNGM"--you'll try to hit the "forgive" button as much as possible. I fear that I, like maybe A LOT of us, will be receiving poor standings and warnings until we get our SELF CONTROL in place. We'll have to see how lenient the Friendly-Fire analyzer will be during this unavoidable breaking-in period.
BUT there is one OTHER subject: there are players among us (hopefully MOST of them have by now been turned away by Dust's eccentric FPS design) who still lurk around the matches doing anti-social acts (which is almost anti-New Eden). They aren't worried about loyalty-standings, and they don't want to "have fun playing with others"---they want to satisfy themselves by "disrupting other people's fun", in this or any other online game they visit. (You've all encountered them during your gameplay--your vehicles get stolen by them and trashed, they shoot or drive over you simply because you're there,... and now with friendly-fire "enabled" they may be able to Molotov your pricy Madrugar just when your team is relying on your HAV's fire-support.
...Hopefully the Friendly-Fire analyzer is designed to gradually filter out this type of "online gamer" too. We can frustratingly put up with that malice in Public Matches. In Factional Warfare matches, the stakes are becoming too high for us to be able to tolerate our matches still being infiltrated by those individuals.
So please don't request too many changes yet , let's taste what CCP has put on the plate first. ....(drooling). |
