Hey folks, after 2 months break from this game due to lack of content, I really wanna give it another try. I don't have my old ps3 anymore so I was wondering what PS3 is good to get.
I simply want it to play DUST and was thinking of getting the 12GB model but will that be enough space?

Can't remember the exact size, something like 2.4GB. 12GB PS3 should be more than enough if all you want it for is Dust.
Edit: Just checked and it is 2719MB |

Also, how big is the current DUST 514 file on your HD? That would also be a great help! 12 GB should be enough to run this game but don't expect to be able to run too many other games though. |

Any is fine. Just got in October after my old one died.

Also, how big is the current DUST 514 file on your HD? That would also be a great help! A really cheap option to look at is to buy a 2nd hand PS3 that has a broken disk player. You should be able to pick one up for pocket change. If you go for the newest PS3 with the 12GB you should be well set up. As far as I know that 12GB is solid state so you'll have Dust running as smoothly as possible |

Non of the ps3s have solid state drives and SSDs do not increase the performance much at all on the ps3 (Pretty much SSDs are a waste of money on Ps3s it will have far greater uses in a PC then a Ps3) |

As to whether SSDs are worth the money is all in the users eyes. I've corp mates that have them and they are always the first in the warbarge and the first to deploy. They've seen a big difference from before to after. Actual gameplay has seemed smoother to them but that is hard to quantify. |

Cuz if its the ps3 id totally buy a new ps3 ( and yes not buy a ps4 nothing interesting in ps4 for right now)

You could probably find a PS3 with a non functional bluray for dirt cheap.

Like I said they are a waste of money on ps3s and work 10x better on PCs. The limitation on the PS3 is that it works at 1.5Gb/s. A SATA 1 SSD could do grand but since they were a new product they were quite buggy. The best bet for anyone upgrading is to get a 2.5 SATA 3 SSD as it is fully back compatible for 1.5Gb/s rated units, and most of the bugs associated with SSDs had been ironed out by their production date.
I don't see how it's a waste of money with more games installing large amounts of data on the hard drive as well as using the cache on the hard drives fairly intensively the advantages are noticeable. Claiming that it's 10x better on a PC is a pile of BS. What you'll get at the moment with a new SATA 6 SSD is 6Gb/s. Lets do the sums on that.....that'd be 4 times better than a 1.5Gb/s Using a SATA 3 SSD would have minimal bottle necking due to its designed compatibility too, so you'll get close to the 1.5Gb/s off it. Since Dust is purely hard drive based the advantages are easily there. If you don't want to spend the money, fair enough, but claiming what you did is a big steaming pile of BS. Props for trying to give advice but making wild claims does you no credit.
Stevez, since ya just want to play Dust I'd go with what I said earlier and get a 2nd hand PS3 with a broken disk drive, one of the slims rather than a fatboy or extra slim, as they have some of the better construction. Good luck and see ya in Dust soon |

do your self a favor and get the small hard drive one then remove and replace that drive with a 128GB SSD and chuck the old one in the trash(unless you are a pack rat like me then keep it to pack rat your data on). Load time are 15secs faster minimum(my fatboy is at least 15secs faster then the new PS3s) with an ssd and texture pop is almost non exsistant. I did this because I had a ssd to spare, and didn't expect a difference, but its the best thing i could have done for my PS3.
128GB is good enough unless you plan on loading that thing down with a lot of media and/or LOTS of games(20ish)
if you don't want to put in an ssd then get >60gb, its better to have space to spare full hard drives are slow hard drives. |

Ok yea this is true so either go for one with a broken disk or hard drive and replace the hd with a SSD dirve, or get the 12gb one and if necessary replace the drive, tho if you are only playing dust the largest ive seen the client is 5gb I think which is well under the 50% full you wanna keep it below. once again its really only a workable option if all you are playing is dust but you can always replace the harrddrive. |

As people have stated, if it's just for DUST then u can get a used PS3 with a broken Blu Ray Drive on the cheap or U can get the 12GB PS3 which is new and it will have a warrenty and then change the Hard Drive (HDD) 500GB HDD are very cheap now especially since the 700GB and 1TB drives came out :)
Personally i'd go for the new 12GB PS3 and Add a nice new 500GB @ 7200RMP HDD drive cause it loads faster than a normal 5200rpm, - TRIED AND TESTED, it just makes the loading times slightly faster but it is noticable :)
NB Changing your drive does not screw over your warrenty it just means the HDD isn't covered by Sony. |

That was an exaggeration (A quite obvious one at that) but it will work A LOT better then with a ps3 (That was the point of this . My brother bought one for his ps3 and he has seen very little difference.
Also SSDs aren't very cheap so that is why I think it is a waste of money since you won't be able to get the full performance from the SSD while on a pc there is a very noticeable difference. |

I never quit, I took a break. I had every plan on coming back. I just want to know what ps3 would run dust better because I know there are issues with some models involving deploy time. I have over -ú100 of omega boosters to be used. Which I bought before taking the break. So think twice before you call a dedicated player that has supported this game since beta a quitter. |
