what's the best battlefield role right now to be? what about in the near future with different changes in upcoming patches? |

At the moment the fotm is the minmitar scout if you want to follow that path but I agree with the other posters
Oh and stay away from the logi, they all suck ass

Spot on. Don't let someone convince you to min/max your fitting and weapon just to purely get the top end numbers (that may get adjusted at some point).

If you pick a role you love then it doesn't matter if CCP changes skills or layout - the role will still be the same.
Same goes for weapons - if you love the dynamic of the weapon then even if the characteristics change you will still enjoy it and get it to work. Even plasma cannons - which everyone will tell you to avoid.
Besides I always advocate that if you love something it doesn't matter how effective it is, you will find a way to make it work. I love scouts and Knives and I don't care what happens to them as long as they're still in the game. Though if a dev is reading this i'd really appreciate these getting a little love

I gave this a Like because it was funny, and if anyone decided to play a Minmatar Scout because someone told them it was FOTM, without doing further research, or considering what they might find fun to play, well, then they deserve to play as a Minmatar Scout.
Now if someone liked being able to run around really fast and wanted to use Knives, then that would be another matter. They would enjoy the class, and become good with it while it is weak, then becomes GODGÇÖs of DUST when it finally gets a Buff.

I'd hate to see the Minmatar Scout become the FoTM. It is a suit for real mercs looking for a challenge.

I understand completely. I feel the same about the HMG Heavy. I started playing it when it was at itGÇÖs weakest state, and enjoyed the challenge. I appreciated the health buff we got recently, but still find it fun and challenging. I really have no interest in the HMG Heavy ever going back to what it was in Chromosome.
What I was getting at, is that it will be the people who stick with a class even at its weakest, who get good with it, and once the class gets properly balanced, it is those hardened vets which really make it shine.

Flavor of the month, or in EVE, fit of the month. It's an acronym coined from one specific fitting combination being the only viable meta due to it exploiting broken game mechanics or simply because it's the most serviceable choice by default. Or simply, whatever Nyan Sain is using in bulk during public matches.

Recently I've been running the Minmatar Scout as a Stealth Suit. Maybe give that a shot on an alt?

Run starters for a while, play every role and then skill into the one you find you love the most. In ever FPS before dust I ran as an assault/shotgunner. I'd run in stupidly and spray and was good at it. In this game, that was not the case and pure logi has been my love even though I die when someone sneezes. Stick with a squad and you'll still find reason to love it.
