War is the physical manifestation of the inner turmoil that we as beings suffer. In that way, the universe is an entity and we are its thoughts, ideas and creations, conflicting in our own existence simply because we contradict each other because of the concept of plurality. In the end it is an inevitable consequence of existence and we are meant to survive it, ideals intact and make sure the conflicting ideal does not.

War is the pounding of the foot soldiers and the bellowing of their war cries that abruptly end to the raffle of gunfire. The civilian, running amongst the fray, confused and frightened, before a bullet clips him in the side of the head. The shell-shocked mother, cooing her mangled-corpse of a child that maybe- just maybe- their next life will be better. The fountains of money, that bleed like lacerated wounds into the corporate, gluttonous mouths, spewing over onto their fat, corpulent bodies.
And war is the mercenary, amidst a storm and a tempest of chaos, that simply stands there.
Standing ever so still amongst the pain, the greed, the sorrow, the horror, and feeling nothing but emptiness.
Standing ever so still.

War is a title that can only be given by generals and historians. The context it's used in is ever changing based on who started it, who one, and who admits that it ever happen.
As far as I'm concerned, I don't need to worry about whether or not I'm fighting a war. I just shot who I'm told to and do what I deem necessary before I see where my cards lie when it's all been said and done.
In the moment when I truly understand my enemy, understand him well enough to defeat him, then I also love him.
