I recently downloaded dust 514 but discovered that my ps3 shuts off a couple seconds after ending up in the players room every time. Because of this, I can not play the game. The power light blinks red, but I know it is not heating up as all other games work perfectly fine. Please help so that I can play |

When the light blinks, does it say "I'm sorry, I can't let you play that game Dave."? |

A few thoughts that might or might not help.
First how old are your systems? In years.
If your PS3 is over two years old have you ever had the thermal paste replaced? If not, why not?
Where does your PS3 sit? The closer it is to the floor the more likely the vents are plugged. It does need to be cleaned out when they start to show any collection at all.
For the 640GB HDD user, what RPM is the drive? A drive faster than 5400RPM will normally fail in the PS3 sooner or later and most likely sooner in DUST as it generates a lot of heat.
Past that I am at a loss. All DUST related overheats that I have tracked on the forums have been tied directly to either older machines with bad thermal paste or HDD that were out of spec (faster than 5400RPM laptop drives).
Here I would normally say 'Welcome to DUST' but I will fall back to 'Good Luck'. |

It is a very old ps3 about 5 years old, but if it was a dust or overheating problem, wouldn't that mean that none of my other games would work? I leave it off for a few days and then when arriving in the dust players room it shuts off. But directly after that, I can play a different game for hours. I don't think that it is a heating problem

ITS NOT OVERHEAT, PS3 shuts down not only during overheat, its an emergency shutdown, it can be performed during different causes. And my termal paste is pretty fresh.

Salutations Nico! My post here is very late, but if there's a chance you are still experiencing the problem, some others among us reported the following, and it seemed to target the problem:
5 years old may mean "Bought five years ago, but is an early 'PHAT' model", or may mean "a PS3-Slim model, bought 5 years ago". Sony has a long history of component changes and disc-drive changes INSIDE each model that coincidentally keep the THERMOSTAT reading "cool" when you're running a disc-game, but cause the thermostat to read "overheating" when playing a game that pushes your built-in internet/modem processing (or sometimes vice versa). Since Sony never comes out and tells us WHERE that blasted thermostat IS, we can't even find it and figure out why it trips when we play Dust and similar online-only games. But apparently it DOES on some players machines.
---One player solved it by contacting CCP, and requesting they "troubleshoot" his Character Account (apparently a glitch in the account was causing his console to get confused, push its processing into a fit, which caused the repeated overheat). They "rebooted" his account for him, or something like a reboot, and the problem was solved.
---One player solved it by "deleting everything" Dust-related from his console (that means erase the entire game, then erase the Dust data that hides in one of the separate game-data folders on your XMB menu--erase EVERYTHING that says 'Dust 514'). He then went to the Sony Network and manually downloaded the game fresh (don't use any of your console's memory shortcuts or download-history links to reload the game---you must load from the Sony Network as if you are loading Dust for the first time). None of your character's assets/stats are lost, because CCP stores them at Tranquility. This eliminated some mystery ghost from his console, and solved the problem.
These two options work ONLY if your console is overheating due to a processing issue it's having with Dust 514. If these solutions don't work on yours, or if you find the console is overheat-quitting on other ONLINE games (never mind the disc-games), then you'll know your Ps3's online processing components truly are in trouble.
I admire PS3s.... way more than I ever will a PS4,... so I truly hope you get a happy ending! Please let us know.

Celesta, I'm having similar problems, but what do you mean by 'Trouble Shooting' my account, do I send a ticket to CCP asking them to moniter my performance for the day, or do I just ask them to troubleshoot my account?
I'm getting the same thing, blinking red light, although I can actually play for a few hours before it happens, cleaned out my PS3 today, and I mean internal cleaning, remove dust (Actual dust, not the game) from everything and its still happening.
