As an occasional red line sniper I want to be able to destroy my own equipment. I like the speed of Ishukone Guaged Nanohives, but I only need them for a single speedy supply burst of my Charge Riffle. After supply I would like to be able to destroy them to eliminate their persistent bubble signature on the tac-net map.

Lanius Pulvis wrote:The thread name is slightly misleading, you want to destroy your PERSONAL equipment. Although I'm in favor of this ability, it seems like it would be necessary to implement it properly. For instance, if you throw a nade in self-defense will you destroy any equipment in the area? Will a button press over top of equipment, like O for using your injector, be necessary.
I definitely don't want others to be able to destroy my equipment, that would just lead to more effective Trolls. I'm actually in favor of both aspects you discussed; the personal destruction of equipment and the "trollish" ability for other team members to destroy your own equipment. I would opt for this latter mechanic to be reserved for PC battles where teams have the ability better regulate who enters their battles.
I like the O button press mechanic you described. That would actually work nicely with an equipment recovery tool. Tap O to destroy equipment, hold O to recover equipment. A skill tree aspect increases recovery time. Of course recovering things such as Nanohives may be difficult to track and implement due to them have cluster reserves.

Lanius Pulvis wrote:Yeah, during PCs that could work. Are you thinking of recovered equipment being redeployable with the remainder of nanites/spawns? While I was thinking about that, item management becomes a concern with the already packed navigation wheel. There may be some instances where you don't want to replace partially depleted hives and instead opt for deployment of full cells. Remote Explosives avoid a large degree of these issues, so that may be the first place to start with the item deployment and recovery system.

Just a glaringly obvious pile just begging to be destroyed and grant the enemy extra points. That's a great point! It would be nice to get to a point were you could pick up other player's equipment either to refuel your own reserves through nannite harvesting or reapply them.

Just out of curiosity, I quickly crunched the numbers and found that each merc on a 16 player team would have to place down roughly 32 unique pieces of equipment in a single zone in order for one enemy player to earn an orbital from a single flux grenade. I'm sure nobody could actually reach that density as it would create a sheer vortex of lag.
