I would like to play Farming Simulator on an "alien" world
You can DO farming in New Eden. I am talking about Planetary Interaction in EVE Online. You can install appropriate agricultural schematics in your industrial facilities to do so. But now days it's just words and some pretty shiny icons. Looks boringly boring. Nevertheless bears real profits.
In this thread: Planetary Interaction Structures from EVE by Reav Hannari https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=122579&find=unread
There is a suggestion to make DUST side equivalents of PI facilities. So those two ideas could be tied together.
Wait that's not all. Beside farming this would imply any other types of planetary activities (beside military) in DUST. And all those new options would be susceptible to military actions. Some people just can't live peacefully and feel urge to rule over other people
I have one worry with this though... DUST is intended to be A+ FPS Not RPG But hey! Only cows don't change their mind CCP is not a cow. So there are some options open

OK, but when doing industry in EVE, you can't see cogs spinning, assembly lines moving stuff around, industrial robots assembling stuff. It's all just drop-downs, lists and buttons. With pretty shiny static icons and some progress percent quote. The end product is another pretty shiny icon with quantity/volume indicator next to it. Oh, and wallet balance change.
If what you are asking for are industrial vehicles/facilities (in terms of on-map game assets) and some player performed actions on DUST maps using those vehicles i think you ask for something BIG.
Otherwise it's still going to be "spreadsheet" activity. Akin to using market UI. Browsing lists and pressing pad buttons. No actual on-map PvE.
I hope i am wrong

That fairly accurately describes manufacturing, I admit. However, there is more to industry. The harvesting of materials is one such facet. Mining, salvaging and gas harvesting are all things you do physically and manually. Yes, it can be fairly boring, but it is there. The recent hacking and archaeology minigames in EVE are a good example of something that is both manual, fun and industry-related.

I am all for down to the ground activities in DUST. I agree there must be some middle ground and clear division between what you can do via "spreadsheet UI" and what can you do via on-map PvE interactions.
Harvesting things is a basic minimum i would accept. Repairing infrastructure after some "incidents" (PvE or PvP in nature) is another.
But it all have to allow for unexpected and anytime PvP incidents. The basic "room" in dust is a battle map. Whole district map is 5 km x 5 km in size and can now contain more than one battlefield area. There are plans for whole district "rooms".
What is missing imho is an ability to visit any room anytime you want. Instead we are presented with 15 minutes timeslots with randomly generated rooms queues. The difference is PC where you can choose your "room". For 20 minutes. But you are still constrained to 1 hour windows. Unless you qualify for 3 subsequent immediate reattacks. So you can have almost a whole hour.
And when you own a district the only way to visit it is by "self" attacking it. This must change first for farming to happen.
Then you have to always expect uninvited guests while driving your tractor. And own a POCO in orbit...
According to CCP Logibro, CCP FoxFour is preparing a "massive dev blog". Let's hope there will be a word on new ways of visiting planets... https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=1540008#post1540008 There are only these themes possible: FW, PC and EVE/DUST link
