You don't really get to do it in other games, they just kind of make the decision and that is the end of it, while people in dust might say otherwise, I'd say the dust community has had more input on the game than most other communities had on their respective games.
You can even watch the evolution of the dropship angles and how they responded in kind in each patch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uOsM0YEfJFk&feature=c4-overview&list=UUy11xToip47aIW0M9TSOKrQ
While its not perfect our opinions do in fact get incorporated into the game to whatever small degree, while all of the changes aren't good, whether its something we as a community didn't see or whether CCP over did the change, it keeps the changes keep the gameplay interesting and the forums lively and more focused on game mechanics.
Whether it effects me or not, its fun thinking how the game could change, whether its clever ideas like tiericide, ewar, capacitors, or just a shift in balancing. I also like reading what other people see as problems and what solutions they give, whether I disagree or agree with the idea, its still fun to watch the theory crafting, the rejection, and counter theory crafting. Its like politics expect in a virtual world.
We've had LR 514, FL 514, Tanks 514, etc (AR 514 is a given), but the fact that tactics change so dramatically, the gameplay itself changes on this nature alone. Especially considering LR 514 meant that charging into close quarters was the best counter vs FL 514 which distance was your ally. While this might bother other people, I kind of enjoy it, while it makes it hard to build around the idea of a min max. A stable min max formula gets dull if it doesn't switch up every now and then, and the changes dust goes through is like a whole new game every 6 months, which works wonderfully with passive skilling.
Again, I don't expect hits here, I'm just throwing my thoughts into text, but this is what keeps me tied to dust at any rate.

lol sorry, I knew I was going to get flak for that one.
The reason why whining and suggestions usually dominate the dust forums is in fact because the chance of having them picked up in the game is in fact possible with the monthly update cycle dust has. So there is some truth behind the statements.

The farthest I've ever gotten is identification of bugs with the Corp Wallet.

I tried to put a level into Amarr Commando once, but got a server notification saying "Why?"

Of course, when is anything "always good", but the general idea behind a forum of ideas is that the tested ideas demonstrate what is good and bad, so the bad ones get filtered out in the long term.

You have me beat because I don't think I have any and that catch is something most players probably would have missed, so kudos on that one
