Basic Medium => Logistics +2~4 equipment slots +1~2 module slots +CPU/PG +1HP/s per level suit bonus +1 racial bonus -Base stats -Sidearm (except Amarr logi)
Basic Medium => Assault +5% shield recharge rate per level suit bonus +1 racial bonus
Does anyone else see anything wrong with this? This was never an assault vs logi issue, but assault vs basic medium frames. All you really get from skilling from a basic frame to an assault is a shield bonus (that's useless on 2 suits) and a racial bonus. Instead, the jump from basic medium to assault should look something like this:
Basic Medium => Assault +25% base shield or armor (depends on race) +25% base shield recharge rate for all suits (instead of the bonus) +CPU or PG (depending on race) +Base stamina +Base movement or sprint speed (depends on race) -25% CPU/PG fitting cost to weapons and weapon mods. (Change Gallente assault bonus to +plate efficacy or -movement penalty to mirror the Caldari assault)
This would be a good start on making assaults more attractive compared to logistics because you actually get something aside from 2 bonuses you might not really use and a white coat of paint. At the same time, this reinforces the assault suit's strengths compared to logistics by making them less module reliant, allowing them to fit stuff like damage mods without having to give up HP and more offensive based by allowing them to fit better weapons.
I tried to put a level into Amarr Commando once, but got a server notification saying "Why?"

I think CCP just got the slots vs trade offs wrong. The logi bonus is so much better than the assault too and it has a complex level effect instead of advanced.
Let's take the Amarr pair since then we don't have to worry about the sidearm tradeoff.
H/L/E -- CPU/PG -- Total Slots -- CPU/PG per slot (including weapons + grenade) Assault -- 3/3/1 -- 350/70 -- 10 -- 35/7 Logistics -- 3/4/3 -- 390/72 -- 13 -- 30/5.5
The Assault also has +60 more shields [a complex shield mod when skills are taken into account] +3hp/sec more shield regen [meh] +Much more stamina and better recharge [more or less a basic cardiac regulator] +0.3m/s more run and sprint [7% so a super complex kin cat that affects run+sprint] -3 sec slower depleted shield delay [this is like missing out on a complex regulator for depleted only, so basic?] -worse scan precision [basic precision enhancer]
And of course the class bonuses, a complex rep vs. an enhanced recharger. The other bonus favours the assault for Amarr.
If we ignore the bonuses for now, CCP has clearly decided that the loss of base stats is worth three extra slots with extra fitting but a loss in fitting budget. The base stats are approximately worth (from Assault to logi) -1 complex shield -1 complex kin cat -1 basic stamina +1 basic regulator +1 basic precision enhancer
This is almost reasonable. I would estimate that the balance is off by one slot if you keep the fitting budget the same when you take the versatility (and thus power) of equipment slots into account.
The class bonuses need to change too though.
[All stats are from the wiki, I haven't taken into account shields vs amour or high slots vs low because I'm hoping one day they'll be balanced] |

Actually it's the fact that some assault suits aren't balanced with there logi counterparts.
Amarr assault and logi are pretty well balanced.
We need to apply a similar bonus to all assault suits. (Give them a bonus to their racial weapons like amarr)

This isn't an assault vs logi topic, it's assault vs medium frame. Assaults aren't attractive enough to skill into because you barely get anything.

Currently the Assault is flat out better than the basic frame. The Logis are by far better than the basic frames.
The basic frames should have a purpose too.
I wouldn't mind seeing 2 equipment slots on the basic medium.
I'd also like to see the specialisations derived from the basic frames (and I want to know how CCP decides on the changes). The specialisations should not be strictly more powerful, just more specialised. |

This isn't an assault vs logi topic, it's assault vs medium frame. Assaults aren't attractive enough to skill into because you barely get anything.
The problem is not just with assaults or logis, a complete revamp of the medium dropsuit tree is in order. None of the suits are well thought out.
Also a rebalance of the heavy and light dropsuits should be done A S A P in order to make this game good.

This man gets it.
Basic suit should have a purpose and a trade-off to be more general logi/assault (but not better at logi than logi suit and not better at assaulting than assault suit). Assault needs to be the best for killing (hence most high/low slots of them all). Logi will trade high/lows/weapon slot (survivability/dmg) for using equipment to support the team.
It is not a question if fixes like this should be done, its just a question of when CCP will hire more people and have the resources to do it quicker to save the game.
Edit: Like many have proposed before, the dropsuits need to lose the tiers as well (somehow). When will CCP HTFU, and grow the balls to do these changes?

You are right CCP did poorly on the Assaultsuit and I don't know why. Maybe because they were to good in Chromosome. But they shoud know better. The assaultsuit needs something to differentiate hm from the basic suit (btw the same is true for scouts...).
I agree to all your suggestions apart from the movement (base) speed. Assaults and scouts are already close regarding the speed difference further lowering the gap would render scouts even further useless. |

You forgot the fact that basic suits cost a lot more isk than the Assault or Logistics variants.
But yes, I completely agree. I'd honestly like to see some more differences between stats of the basic and assault suits.
I'd like to see a middle ground between the two types...maybe the prototype basic has two equipment (like how the Assault vk.0 was)? with a slower movement speed, reduced hp, and a more balanced slot loadout.
Let's not get into how the Basic Heavy frame is a horrible subsitute for the previous type-II heavy, and how a shield heavy is impossible to fit as of right now.

I always thought that the Amarr assault was worth the sp compared to the basic frame as you get that cooldown bonus to laser weaponry. But this would be a nice way to make a bigger difference between medium frame suits that is kinda lacking at the moment.

Logistics suits has penality against Basic Frames. Less Stamina Less speed No sidearms. Less Hp Base.
While Assault don't lose ANYTHING. So YES they wins less than Logistics because they lose nothing. |

At least youre asking for the assault to be improved, maybe asking for too much, but not ranting about nerfing logis like every other whiner, stop bitching Heavies and scouts need improvements way more than u guys. Assault mow down heavies and scouts but when they attempt to recklessly take on a proto logi and die they start crying. It's not even difficult to kill one, any prot assault w an ar and pro 5 can tear thru logis like a knife thru butter. |
