#1 - Despite any gripes I am going to bring up. I am still having great fun with this game. That is of course the most important and that is why I keep pouring money into this game for testing out nice gear on stuff I don't have skills for etc.
#2 - ARs are way too strong. Everyone uses them for a reason. I have started to skill into them and with really weak skills I'm doing as well as my Laser Rifle that I have excellent skills in. Seems like the Scrambler Rifle is very strong too. ARs either do too much dps or have too much range. The game would be better with people using more weapons. You see some shotguns and snipers because they fill a niche that no other weapon does. I just don't see how the other racial weapons are going to fare with the AR and scrambler rifle being so good at so many things.
#3 - Aim Assist is too strong. I come from PC and bought a PS3 to play DUST (I'm an EVE player) and I am VERY experianced with KB/M. After getting whomped badly recently I swapped to just using the DS3. I am doing BETTER with it except in sniping where I am NEARLY as good. Perhaps buffing the KB/M by letting me custom map it would fix this. I LOVE how my weapon will partially track someone strafing me with the DS3. My KB/M has none of this. And with sniping when pixels count, it is skippy on how much movement causing me to move just a pixel or two.
#4 - Terrain movement. CCP needs to implement a GTA V style of going up inclines. The glitchy getting stuck movements trying to climb a hill are ridiculous and get me killed quite a bit.
#5 - Skills need to be revamped. Coming from EVE I thought CCP knew this already as they eliminated these kind of skills llong ago. Skills that unlock but do nothing else. No one likes training these! When I can get access to advanced suits at lvl 3 and proto at lvl 5 what good is lvl 4? I feel bad training these skills and it isn't fun. EVERY LEVEL OF EVERY SKILL SHOULD DO SOMETHING USEFUL! Even skill that increase damage 1% or something small like that make me giddy to go out and try those fits and see how they do. Skills that unlock only pay off when they unlock the item. EVE eliminated these skills form lots of player feedback and then CCP Shanghai makes the same mistake....
#6 - Implement DUST into Null sec sov for EVE. You want to make people care about this game? Do this. Don't do it weakly. Go balls deep and make it REQUIRED for getting a station or something along those lines. EVE has the best meta game in all of gaming period. A famous quote about EVE is this: "EVE is a mediocre game but the meta game is incredible." You will get people to overlook a lot of what DUST needs work on by making the meta matter more. That is how EVE has survived for 10+ years and kept growing. I personally have played it for over 6 years and never unsubbed.

I agree with all of your ideas, makes sence Toss a toxin AR on a starter fit and put uplinks (basic ones) and you'll be raking in isk and WP at the same time.
And try commando A-1 with toxin and shotgun and scanner....it's a beuty in Zerg rushing objectives and defending objectives

Talryn,
This is one of the better posts I've read in a while and support every point you've made. I'm particularly a significant supporter of #5 and #6.
Only minor beef is that aim assist is is a big boost to some, unnoticeable by others, and ultimately you can make the decision to turn it off in your settings. I'm pretty confident you need some kind of AA in a game like this but not sure what we have is right so I'm with you that it needs to be looked at. I think the tough part is trying to not tip the balance to either ds3 or Kbm.

I think these useless skills will eventually disappear and the SP refunded. I believe they are filler skills until other content is released. I can only hope. For it is stupid to skill up to level 5, for it only gives you 1% to CPU/PG for each level

I haven't played many other FPS games so i don't know how strong AA is in those other games. All I know is the KB/M is weak compared to the DS3 in everything except sniping. Custom key maps would alleviate some issues and bring it back to on par with DS3.
The Meta Game is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metagaming
Specifically: In EVE Online, the metagame refers to the styles of fitting, engagement tactics and fleet doctrines used by the playerbase on small and large scales, where knowledge of the types of NPC and Player encounters that are likely to be found influences the fleet composition directly. Recent changes in EVE's Odyssey patch directly address the metagame to balance many of the ships, bringing up in power or use those which were less favoured while toning down those that dominated universally, such as the old "Hurricane" battlecruiser.[4] See also metametagaming |

The mainstream MMO for years was WoW, yet EVE is the MMO that has grown 10 years running. Doing what the mainstream does is not necessarily the avenue to long term success. I get that console fps gamers prefer to have some form of AA, but it really needs to be tuned to make sense for the long term interest of DUST, not compared to the (frankly crap) games like COD. |

Meta is defined at the game off the battlefield, for example how well you can fit your merc, skill train, and more importantly the social consequences you have interacting with other players.

Thank you for reading this.
I haven't played in a while, but I left because of #2 and #3. In conjunction, these two things make Dust lose most of the depth it previously had, and keeps Dust from adding to the depth. TTK is far too short, and weapon diversity is far too low.
4,5 and 6 are annoying, but would be livable without 1 and 2.
In short I agree with the entire post. These things are the reason that I'm still gone.
