Hey fellas,
Was curious as to what sidearm you use when using your SL fit. Currently using syndicate SMG with prof 4 to help deal with infantry threats. Surprisingly, seem to do better with this sometimes than the assault fits. Enter every match AV, so I don't have to die or find a supply depot if the enemy brings out a HAV or a LAV is harassing the team.
Only problem is that sometimes there is nothing to blow up, and the gunfight is long range, too long for effective smg use. Some maps the gap can be closed using cover, others not so much. Would a scrambler pistol be better for these situations?
Would like to stay in the AV fit throughout, just in case the enemy brings in a tank late. But I also don't want to be useless when they don't.
Thoughts/tips.
Great job, team. Head back to the MCC for debriefing and cocktails.

I use a Proto Ishukone Assault SMG, goes well with the Minmatar Assault. With the Proto suit I get 100 rounds.
Works well if you get both the suit and SMG.
Madness is the emergency exit. You can just step outside, and close the door on all those dreadful things that happened.

Thanks. Does the effective range go up with tiers or should I focus on the sharpshooter skill?

I generally use the SMG and it has surprisingly decent range. Minmatar have a tradition of fighting in fall-off range. Otherwise, the Scrambler Pistol is a great weapon, despite its Amarrian origins, and can even do some mid-range sniping. If someone gets close it does a good jump of melting them too.

It does, the ishukone has insane range for an smg. I find myself aiming down sights more often than not with it, especially since it has no recoil.

According to the rifle numbers for 1.7 the ranges do get better at higher tiers but we don't have any data for our current build. I only have Level 2 in SMG Sharpshooter and haven't felt the need to improve it.

Scrambler Pistol or SMG. Both are very deadly. Scrambler pistol has the quickest time to kill between the two but the smallest ammo pool and a smaller SP investment to max out. The SMG never really runs out of ammo tbh and at higher proficiencies melts just about anything. They're both good but since they have a bonus to either shield or armor you're going to have trouble with specifics suits until you get proficiency in the side arms.
Assault variants of both weapons have extended ranges and rates of fire making them more suitable for main weapon use.
Reav, you should get that sharp shooter up, it's kind of insane how much the gun changes at hipfire. :D

Love my proto assault scram pistol it is my guilty pleasure when I pull out swarms because when the tank is down I still run around destroying red dots.

Dual tanking is a sin
BPO's are bad for economy, Respec's are bad for the game. Want to fight about it?

Considering its become my primary weapon I probably should. I'm currently saving for the Combat Rifle though. I only have 27 mil SP. Maybe when I hit 100 mil I'll be happy.

Same dilemma I faced being a FG user, at long range or especially against a slow moving/stationary target I do pretty well, at close range my syndicate (eventually will be replaced with m209 when I have the CPU to spare) just shreds targets, middle range is difficult but still doable, with tactics.
SMG with skills is almost a completely different weapon, sharpshooter and kick make a bigger impact on this weapon than the AR IMO. |

Do love the SMG. Played around with the militia FG. Problem is I'm a heavy in RL. Like to dream a little when I'm in game.

Willing to work at my gun game with a pistol. That would help me get better in the overall gameplay. Would have to overcome initial crappy aim using different methods, but force myself to stick with the pistol. Been playing with the Plasma cannon a little, I suck but it's fun.:-)

Unfortunately I am a damage dealer for life, I live to see dropships and tanks burn, but to make that happen I need to take out those pesky infantry, and for that the SMG is very good, i haven't played around with the higher tiered assault variants, but standard is only missing a bit of range to really be a light weapon. |

Not that I don't love my Ishukone ASMG, but let's be honest here.
22m optimal + 45m effective is not insane range.

For dedicated swarm users, I think the SMG is the only real option. The Scrambler Pistol is a great side arm and can be devastating in the right situation, but I don't care for it as my only way to deal with infantry. The clip is small and it is much more difficult to deal with multiple close range enemies in a hectic firefight. Perhaps the biggest difference is intimidation factor. If I'm off chasing a tank without my squad, round a corner, and am caught off guard by a group of several enemies, spraying them down with the SMG often causes them to take cover as I do the same, whereas the pistol seems to have little effect diverting them. Once I leveled to 4 and picked up the M209, I became happy with the range. |
