I know this might have been mentioned before but I hear a lot of moaning about active scanners from many people, I personally think they are great and add a new level of gameplay making it a important piece of equipment in each squad.
The idea is to make the scanner get a rangebuff however it gets a -4dB drop off each 25m for proto the advance scanner looses 5dB and the standard 6dB. The types could be adjusted a bit so the flux keeps its longer range but maybe looses less per 25m.
Take the proto quantum it has 100m and 24dB ok so idea is to give it a extra 25m to it and all other scanners however. 25m = 24dB 50m = 28dB 75m = 32dB 100m = 36dB 125 = 40dB 150m = 44dB
This would allow longer range characters to have it easier to reach the invisible marker while it makes the scanner not the scan all all the time even at full range it makes the scanner more dynamic and would make other types more viable as right now everyone I know runs the quantum. Adding a sort of dampening factor and changing it for different types it would make shorter visible scanners that have overall less visibility time more viable if they do not drop off as fast as the long visibility variants.
It is not a fully original idea but I could not find anything but hate or nerf threads, this is meant to be a constructive idea to make the other variants more viable keeping them powerful in their respects but adjust them to allow more types. Maybe even make the proto lower dB but since it will drop off makes the scout invisible to the scanner unless they are within 50m |

How about we just make the scanner become a multiplier of the suits passive scan precision?
I.e. Minmatar logistics has 0 points in precision. And equips a duvolle focused. Make the scanners either subtract a set #db off of your suits scan precision, or a percent. So a minnie logi with a focused would lose 16db from his dcanning, making the scanner scan 34db.
If percentage it should be similar to a meta lower precision mod. Proto would drop by 15%. Thus a 50db logi would go down to 46.5 or so. This, while effectively nerfing it, would make it possible to scan even the under 18db scout- you would just have to sacrifice your 700eHP with a duvolle.
Risk vs reward my friend. Do i sacrifice one extender, or 2?
Also would allow scouts to not need to pull out ye ol calculator and make sure they're .05 under that tier's scanner.

I like the second suggestion, tying the active scanner to suit precision, although it too has some issues.
While speaking of improving the scanners, please have a look at this idea
Feeling the scanner is too simple and off balance?

I think there should be an active scanner tht works like a drop uplink, in the sense tht u drop it on the floor and it does its job :) |

I think a nice drop-off would be good as it keeps high profile suits visible on any suit using a scanner however lower profile or even low key dampened suits can be below the profile when they are out of the up close. It would give similar info as right now in the 50m range but you would never know how close the "Margin of Error " is it could be a scout at 25m or a assault with a damp at 150m distance. It would not make it the perfect scan each time.
Generally dampening happens at -6dB over a decade so dissipation should happen.
I would love something similar to grenades and mass drivers where its not just direct and splash but rather direct, 0-25%splash near the direct damage then 25-75% a sort of half damage splash and 75-100% the 30% damage splash. Grenades are not a 100% kill everytime the distance is key they have a killzone then a fragment zone then a splinterzone so this should be relfected but it is probably to difficult. |

Or maybe people should skill into profile dampening.
They call me the C.L.I.T commander.
