Well there is a lot of talk about weapon balance and things being OP and broken ect (lasers doing stupid damage to armor for example) and ways to fix it. now this may seem a bit too easy for its own good but why don't the drop suits have the same 4 resistance types for shield and armor that the ships of eve have?
imagine how much this could solve if damage is calculated by the resistance figures vs weapon damage. Sentinels could get the 4% per level to armor exposive resistences to help them survive longer. lasers would cut through shields like a hot nova knife through butter and come to an abrupt halt when they hit the 50% EM and 35% Therm resistances of armor. hell armor hardeners could come back to strengthen restistance types. let caldari assaults use a hi slot for an EM shield hardener to survive the lasers, us armor tankers can drop a plate but get 40-50% resistance to bloody core nades and survive a bit longer in MD clusterf**ks
it just seems to me that it'd help fix a lot of issues and suits can be balanced without having to fully nerf a weapon by simply changing one suit types resistance levels based on their roles |

You see Nirwanda this is the problem with having a really good idea.
The only thing people have to say is "Agreed", and most people want to be able to put more than just one word with punctuation, but they can't

I whole heartedly agree with you. However coma, pause for effect...
That would be to complicated for 90% of the console only players. The reason they are teying to make Dust simple is to apeal to thoes players. If Dust became spreadsheets on ground only eve players would want to play it. |

there is already a large amount of information anyway. having the resists added to the suit fitting wouldn't be too much. if its included as a skill bonus too then more people are likely to ask what it is as well. 99% of how to play the game is passed via player to player |

I completely agree that resistances would be a great way to balance weapons and suits. It would certainly bring dynamics to the battlefield and make it so that you'd need to bring variety to the fight (not just ar's, but scrams/lasers and md's as well). That and maybe even different ammo types somewhere down the line. It would make it much more of a thinker's game rather than just a 2-second battle kind of game.
My only concern is if this is even possible with the current resources available for dust or even on the unreal engine.
There's lots of girls who play Dust 514. Unfortunately, they're almost all of the male variety.

Because it would mindfuck most console gamers to oblivion.
Most of my friends play FPS's regularly (In High School), and the ones I've poked into playing it already go "WTF is this ****" at the skilling and fitting, so more mathz to slam their heads in wouldn't be optimal.
A basic resistance module, much like the vehicles Resistance, would be just fine.
5/10/15% through the tiers.

I read until that part. I now know you know nothing, just another Butthurt Armor tanker and do not need to read the rest... |

I use both shield and armor depending on account. the damage lasers do to armor is unbalanced (from an eve players perspective) a simple +/- 10-20% of weapons is too basic. the resistances would balance weapons 'correctly' and would help out the shield tankers too by using resistance plates |

Dear lord... they're messing up with what FEW options we have now, do you want them to be boggled down with even MORE variables? That would mean a noted Decrease in speed of... everything they're trying to produce.

Doable if they include some kind of tutorial for new players because it would add a layer of complexity - of course the best new player experiences are forged in a PVE environment, which they need before they can do anything like this. |

Great if you're trying to limit the potential playerbase to Eve players. Even more complexity is the last thing you need if you want to bring in new (non-CCP fanboi) players. |

I don't know about you, but the guy who specs into Laser Rifles will be rightfully pissed off when all the enemies have a 75% resistance to Lasers once he hits their armor and he can't kill anyone. I'm not of random rock-paper-scissors mechanics where you need to swap guns ever 10 seconds to get beyond the guy's plating, although resistance to something most everyone carries (grenades) makes more sense.
Many suits I've worn, many burdens I've borne, for the oaths I've sworn.

you'd be suprised. laser ships are still popular in EVE depsite high armor resists and it needn't be too complicated. the suits just have resistances. any new players ask what they are and the current playerbase explains it to them just as we do everything else is the game.
how hard is it to say "hey noob, you're getting your ass kicked by lasers on your shield? pop an EM resist plate and it reduces its damage.
noob says oh cool that helps thanks.
it would also help bring more tactics into PC and FW too. squads will have to work together and plan accordinly like fleets in eve. everyone using scram rifles and lasers will be nullified by armor plates. corps want to spam MD rounds then you can plate up the explosive resists. things are already being added to 'complicate' the game. ammo to the vehicles. a THIRD currency in form of Loyalty Points and there will soon be 20 suits over the 4 races not including basic frames. adding a few numbers under the dropsuit stats arn't really going to complicate things much more than pg/cpu and slot layouts that confuse folk already |
