I should not have to invite to find out (yellow dot) I should be able to tell if someone in the contacts, watch list, or chat channel is in a battle or not (red dot). Not necessary, but could also be a status color for players in your squad to indicate you've already added them (green dot). Also, what is the point of the watch list anyway? Would also be nice to get a notification with an audible chime to know if someone in contacts/watch list log on. In fact all notifications should could with some kind of chime noise.
