I popped my head in just to see what is was like for the new players in the academy.
And let me tell you, if's F***ing terrible. These people have no idea what they are doing and they still manage to get killed somehow. Even when they aren't in a firefight!
And the education system is scrubtastic at best. I saw about 10 people in one match using shotguns with MLT heavies. There was another 3 people sniping who did nothing but shoot the MCC. I asked them in team chat and they said they were destroying the MCC.
And then there were people who couldn't understand the concept of spawning and CRUs. The randoms hacked literally everything but the CRUs. They kept running straight past it and would just spawn all the way back by the MCC instead. EVEN AFTER I HACKED IT.
We need better training and tutorials for these poor souls. I'd hate to see them in a match filled with nothing but proto and PC grade squads.

ha! I did the same yesterday! called a dropship in, flew up on the MCC and stared the battlefield thinking "a considerable part of these guys will leave the game as soon as this match ends".

10k wp to graduate
Instead of starting out in your MQ you start in a virtual simulation system(VSS) aka PVE show you the ropes & while you at it give it a sexy robotic animated voice that'll guide you.

I'm a little surprised at this report. I know Dust isn't that simple, but it's not that complex either. I don't recall having a problem mixing with veterans. I died a lot more in the beginning than I do now, but I never had a problem understanding core gameplay. Domination and Ambush are incredibly easy to learn unless you're completely new to games (I mean all games, not just shooters).
I thought our generation was supposed to be able to grasp this crap without much explanation?

This would be good.
I've always wanted a free-roam where you could run around the battlefield (or drive, or fly), alone or with a squad, with no enemy players or bots, just to see where things are in each map, plan strategies per map, etc. |

Although within the first 15 minutes of gameplay I doubt people are gonna know about uplink deployment and other tactical skills involving this game

That's true; but whenever I got my clone's ass handed to me, I'd just hide in some rocks like Gollum until I learned everything through observation and guesswork. Isn't that how everyone learned how to play Dust?
I quickly learned that trying to help people gets you killed; hide behind teammates and/or tanks when possible, but still don't help them; and when engaged directly by the enemy, wildly toss all your grenades and run. Just keep running, assuming your grenades don't kill you.
I think I'd be a great Dust teacher. |

I can also confirm this stupidity, my little sister started a new character because she wants a tanker alt and played a match (first alt and just recently), but literally everybody else was absolutely ******** (mentally challenged), I mean I don't think they actually played any video games because their coordination was so bad, lets alone fps games because she was literally able to run through a group of reds unscathed, lots of gunfire though, none of it connecting.
She went like 35/8, 10 of those kills was with a turret. There were literally 6 snipers/ar users in a line, out in the open, shooting and missing, she killed each one with a turret, slowly and one at a time and none of them started running when they got hit, none of the other guys started running when the peeps next to them were dying.
I've seen 8 year olds play better than these people, I was absolutely dumbfounded. You could honestly get first by melee attacking your way to the top.
I'm almost tempted to just create a new corp, create an alt, stay peaceful and just recruit some of these guys through in voice game chat and teach them how to play. It was thy most hopeless sight I have ever seen, I cannot see how anybody could fight these guys and sleep at night.

I learned how to play DUST by running and gunning until I could come up with a better strategy.
I brick tank my Logistics for the sole ability of being able to jump into firefights and save/revive people just in the nick of time. I guess people who want to help others should run logistics?

Actually I still see this pattern far after Academy. Roof camps come to mind. Not sure there's a way to teach people how to live long enough to start enjoying the game, if they start, and stay, so bad. I guess PvE is the only way to get people halfway-competent gradually, though transition to PvP would still be a rude awakening.

This does nothing. More WP just increases time for vets to farm ISK, making the Academy pointless. Scrap Academy, insert quick MAG-esq tutorial, and get the newberries learning how it really is as soon as possible. |

Im considering rolling up academy alts every couple of days and just taking my team aside on my first game with them, and explaining everything. I went into one academy match and I was the only guy hacking anything at all, the rest of the people on both sides were just wandering around lost. |

as my buddies that tried dust for a couple of days and uninstalled it said "the game was fun until i left the academy".
