So many forum posts follow the pattern of X is more powerful than Y. I use Y. Nerf X! I disagree. The game would get pretty boring if everything were nerfed into impotence. Instead, we should be encouraging CCP to balance things. Sure, there are things that will need to be nerfed, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't consider buffing other things as a possible solution.
Many are complaining right now that the time-to-kill is too short, especially with Assault Rifles. I don't disagree; something needs to change. The obvious solution is to reduce the damage projection of some weapons GÇö whether it's reducing the range, rate of fire, or damage per shot. Weapons should be equally appealing; one type shouldn't outclass all others in almost every aspect.
Others are complaining that Gallente suits with Armor Tanks are overpowered, but nerfing them doesn't solve the TTK problem. Perhaps a buff to all other suits is in order. We are, after all, clone super-soldiers who fall from the sky in armored suits that cost almost as much as small space ships. Even if we're using weapons that are equally as advanced, it makes sense that we should be able to stand up to a little bit of punishment.
Lastly, remember that the game is not feature complete, and balances and new items are being added every month or so. Don't stop wanting the game to be better, just consider that adding something can be just as effective as taking something away. |

I agree with this. I think most balancing issues can be handled gracefully in a fairly easy straight-forward way. The AR problem, to me, is SUCH an easy problem to fix. Don't touch a thing on it stat wise, but kick up the recoil on the gun way higher. Treat it like an AK-47 with big damage at close range and huge kick. That'll make the weapon function very much as intended as a great ubiquitous rifle but with a pretty solid drawback that still can be effective at range, but not effective for long durations at a distance. Obviously they'd also have to fix the whole "taking your finger off the trigger completely clears recoil" problem too to deal with modded controllers, but that wouldn't take a long time, either. I think if they just do that and leave damage they'll have a completely balanced weapon compared to the lower recoil of other weapon options. |

This means that the shotgun needs a buff to damage, while the AR stays the same. Everything needs to be weak in one direction and strong in another, in other words, rock paper scissors.
Anyone notice that scramblers and mass drivers are picking up again to exploit the shorter range of the AR and the armor tank or the gallogi? That is perfect imbalance working....sort of. It shows that players are finding a counter, but the game has a lot to work on, mainly, adding the new weapons wil lallow us to outrange the AR in more ways but shotgun still needs damage buff. It should be an ohk to every suit within 4m.

You're thinking about it too one-dimensionally, and that's exactly what I'm trying to bring to light. Why should the shotgun one-hit kill everything? Most Snipers can't even do that with a well-placed headshot GÇö the Sentinel still stands. Why not increase the magazine size and rate of fire to reduce the Shotgun's time-to-kill?
GǪand I never said that every weapon needs to be equally balanced in every role. In fact, I specifically stated that homogenizing everything would make the game boring. The problem we have right now is that some weapons, and some dropsuits, are better than others in almost every role. |

Nope, HMG needs a dispersion buff to reduce spread, that is the point of a rotating barrel after all, that and to reduce heat build up in larger caliber ranges. |

Let's assume, for the sake of illustration, that the AR and ScR were both vastly superior to all other weapons. Now let's start talking about balance, hypothetically of course:
Option 1) Nerf these two weapons, such that they no longer out-perform all else. Option 2) Buff every other weapon, to match the performance of ARs and ScRs.
Which Option above do you think would take longer to code / implement / and QA check? |
