Most the skill comes from general understanding of the mechanics, weapons, and maps and knowing how to get yourself into the best position to give yourself the edge. In this case, the forge gun has much further range and can easily attack a vehicle from safety, while a swarm launcher must get close to the target and weave through enemy fire with a primary weapon that cannot dual as an infantry threat.
