There are a few support weapons in dust not truly ment to kill but to suppress and support the frontline, although they are abused by twats with damage mods, what are your views of these weapons and their preformance?(without the bonus of damage mods mind you)
MD
LR
PLC ()
And so on and so forth.

screw you if you hate lr user for stacking dmg mods lol lr doest even have a useful adv weapon..bet ur ass my laser rifle will always have dmg mods on it until ccp buffs my viziam to real proto lvl...
currently dmg modding lr is the only way to to run it especially when scrambler rifle trumps it in its own optimum ranges...in 1.7 with ar and scrm getting buffed lr may become useless
toss all sidearms into that list as support weapons ..they are al tek support weapons

Use of damage modules is not abuse or a crutch and does not make you a ****. It is a decision to sacrifice shields, which recharge naturally and quickly when compared to armor. It is a valid tactic to play more offensively and less defensively.
I think the Mass Driver is about the only real suppressive weapon. In the majority of engagements the Mass Driver user is going to lose against other weapons. I think it's a testament to its effectiveness as a suppressive weapon that people think its over powered. As one of the few indirect fire weapons it does have a niche in clearing out people that are behind cover.

oh and md should be support but its not That bit I underlined just now, that's the problem I see with many suppressive weapons.
The LR, no any weapon, should not require anything to be able to do it's job.
The damage mods are kept in mind when balancing these weapons to the point that they are borderline weak without them, that is ******* wrong.

Pin point accurate weapons are not suppression weapons in dust
Real suppression weapons would be an HMG like weapon with double the damage and 70m range that is inaccurate as hell. It forces people to run because a few stray bullets will kill you if you don't get out of there, and the spread can hold down groups at a time.

I fully disagree, the damage mod spam is so bad that weapons are balenced around the presumption that they'll be used, if this was a tactical strategy based shooter then I'd agree but as of now it's nothing more than a twitch based COD clone where the guy with the biggest gun win so if you are using damage mods (speaking about players in general not you directly) you're part of the problem.

The current WP system disincentivises any "supportive" action (offense-wise, such as area denial and suppression) unless the end result is a kill. Until you remove the current WP system (or revamp the way rewards are doled out), people will keep using damage mods to make what is supposed to be a support weapon into an anti-infantry weapon.

I love the lr in concept. it's a fun gun.
the md is okay. the reload glitch needs to be fixed.
plc is silly, and it's nice to use a weapon that is basically a big 'f you' to the enemy once in a while. |

Support weapons in combination can be frighteningly effective LR strips the shields off of people like they are Galantean pole dancers Couple that with someone laying down MD fire and you have two people holding an objective fairly effectively.
I agree with you Pig, that support actions are under supported in WP, I would add that the dominant attitude on the battlefield reflects this as well. The absence of Assists in the scoreboard and KDR enthusiast promote it further. Having seen my spouse use the LR to garner 40 some odd kill assists in one match, I can say as a support weapon it can be extremely effective.

Personally I use my plasma cannon on my scout with a klo pistol and a few mods. No damage mod cause I dont have the room. Either way that slot always goes to my sidearm. Specced fully into pistols. Just commenting on the plc you had on there. It is deffinetly meant as a support weapon but not for suppression. Its a long range flux torpedo in alot of ways. Once i get the damage pumped up ittl be much better, but at basic levels its still nice to me.

Every weapon is meant to kill, but suppression should be a secondary effect to less effective or non conventional ones. Whether or not we should get WP for suppression or not is an issue within itself. Adding to that list of what could be considered suppression weapons, we really could use an LMG (or maybe a deployable turret) in Dust to break up lemmings on crack mentality we've been seeing.
I tried to put a level into Amarr Commando once, but got a server notification saying "Why?"

The plasma cannon is an OK weapon, but it is not good. Uprising 1.7 will make this weapon crap, since there are better weapons for "confined space combat".
I hope the weapon gets a revamp in 1.7... would love to use it as a main weapon instead of the scrambler rifle.

I thoroughly enjoy when my teammates use the MD as suppression/support weapons.
As a logi, a true logi for the most part, I do not run any damage mods. It's very helpful for me to have someone with a MD on a high point raining down on enemies behind me while I'm trying to run to a friendly to support them. In certain cases the extra DPS the MD user does to the enemy assists me to take down the enemy faster and go about doing my job.
In some public matches, even some PC matches, I've seen MD users sitting on a high point continuously raining down shots on a relatively open area making enemies go around to a smaller pinch point. Making it easier for the squad/team to take out the enemies in a smaller area, also letting the point be defended by less friendlies so they can go support in other areas.
As for the LR and PLC, I rarely see them being used as support/suppression weapons. So I have no opinion regarding them. |

Yes it can

I would like to talk about the Plasma Cannon in this context for a minute.
My role is logi. I am a support dude. I lay down the scans and stay behind my squad laying down hives and stuff. I've been running the PLC as my main for quite a while now and I think it works great for support and suppression. I can lay down shots over at a group approaching and if they don't outright OHK someone they will either make them think twice or they will die quickly. I actually quite enjoy backing up a heavy, ******* people's shields up with splash damage, and then watching the heavy finish them off while I rep. Then I can bust out my proto SMG if they need some backup while reloading (so the Amarr logi is ideal for this type of role.)

Spoken like a person who has never mained the PLC. It is a damn fine weapon in the right hands, just like any other weapon in the game.

i always take notice when someone is using the PLC (either on blue or red side) and will generally send them a message complimenting their choice of weapon. Feels good to know someone noticed me and my PLC.
But anyways, support is where it is at with the PLC. Sometimes I try to run aggressive with it and I do alright but I have much better matches when I just stick with my crew and actually do the logi thing while just supporting with the PLC. It just depends on my mood that day. Do I feel like ******* some red people up or helping some blue people out?
How's this for suppression. I killed a Thale's sniper from 98.7 m 3 times in a row the other day. I'm still loling.
