So, for the second time today, I experienced, my PS3 shutting off randomly, and the red lights blinking 2-3 times. On both occassions, I was playing DUST.
Now, I know this is the sign of the YLOD (Well, at least thats what I've read)
Now I'm afraid to touch this game, in fear of losing my PS3 before the Dark Souls 2 release. ()
So, has anyone else experienced this, and when it happened, were you playing DUST?

My sys was running hot. You can run a ps3 defrag. I found that info here but i dont know the link. Id reccomend it, mine runs way better but still abit hot, so i stand it vertical. Also remove disks. Keep ventilated. Also clear you sys of Dust, there is a proper way to do it or you'll ruin your ps3. |

I have it vertical, and ran a defrag a few days ago, last time I cleaned the air vents was about 3 weeks ago, and they still aren't too dusty.
Its not covered by anything, and everything is a decent distance away from it
It first happened about 3 weeks ago.
Maybe I should open it up, and clean it internally?

Maybe take it to a professional repair station. Or if you're set on it, do plenty of research beforehand. DIY can be risky.

Well your screwed if it goes haywire and needs a replacement.
I doubt Sony would do anything but say, "Why don't you buy a PS4?"
Seriously though, it would suck to get Aldin Kan'ed right now. So you better take good care of your PS3.

( ) So, has anyone else experienced this, and when it happened, were you playing DUST? if its the ps3 phat you should open it up and dust it out also if you have the knowledge replace the cpu paste with some higher quality thermal paste than was used on the phat ps3's http://www.amazon.com/Tuniq-TX-2-Extreme-Performance-Thermal/dp/B00851FN7Q/ref=sr_1_6?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1384571003&sr=1-6&keywords=tuniq+tx-4
you can also get it reballed with better solder for about 130$ in america and that should perma remove the ylod risk from your phat ps3..you should reg re paste every 3-5 years after having it reballed
..really atm it is cheaper to just go buy a new one and a slim than to have a phat reballed however i has my old 60 gb phat ps3 backwards compatible reballed with new thermal paste and that same tuniq paste its an original ps3 and runs dust fine...no overheat..i play ps2 games on it for hours..oh also if you can afford swap the hdd to solid state as well thats helps as well..my phat rocks a 500gb solid state and runs like a queen. |

the original phat ps3 overheat issue was caused by non sufficient solder on the cpu combined with lower quality cpu thermal paste..at the time it was released there wasa ban on led based solders and sony used terrible solder in it..having it reballed and pasted reg should keep her running like a champ |

lmfao Dude Mortedeamor has Ps3 haxing lvl 5
On the upside you should run it even after cleaning it again, because PS4 will crush the price of PS3 and you can pick one up 2nd hand cheap :) UNLESS yours is also " ps3 backwards compatible reballed with new thermal paste and that same tuniq paste its an original ps3 and runs" |

The build up of dust inside the system can be horrendous (especially if you smoke whilst playing). Try removing the outer cover and cleaning it thoroughly. you need a torque screw bit (star) to remove the top cover, i think it's a size 10. The screw is under the security sticker on the left hand side of the playstation. once this is removed slide the cover to the left. underneath this you wil find phillips head screws (6 i think, can't remember exactly) After removing these there is a square hole with a clip in it, push the clip in and remove the top cover. then you can clean the system thoroughly and it should solve the problem

that thermal paste it what allows you heat sink on your cpu to transfer the heat...without it..the whole thing gets hot enough to melt the terribad solder sony used on the cpu which leads to ylod
overheating is caused by more than dust..you should def re paste it...plenty of videos on youtube |

Did'nt read all the responses BUT, have you tried REINSTALLING dust? It solved a LOT of lag problems for me. Also, delete game save data. CCP stores game saves on server. This MAY fix your problem. Here's why: Game/save data can get corrupted. CCP updates install over the old game data instead of removing it first. This can cause some CRAZY bugs. I took a quick look online and found numerous other people who had the same problem with the exact same ps3 game(not dust 514). The system would beep 3 times and shut down at a certain point in game.

I wouldn't bother doing this until you get YLOD. It's a lot harder to do on the PS4 than it is on the kidbox

Yeah, I was going to wait until I actually got the YLOD.
