Plasma. Although in the Eve-i-verse it'd be called a blaster (vs a railgun), in Dust, blaster small arms have been referred to as plasma. So, I'd have to go with that for consistency. Plus, I think CCP, for some reason, wants "blaster" to be reserved for vehicle guns only.

I think we've had one or two long threads on this already. My vote is for either Blaster Rifle or Plasma Rifle.
EDIT: Reread title. Doing too many things at once. If I had to vote for one I'd go with Plasma Rifle but Blaster fits in with how the Gallente have named their ship guns.

its more of a blaster rifle in regards to how it shoots. and what its projectile looks like.
plus we have blaster turrets which fires projectiles similar to that of the assault rifle so blaster rifle would probably be a better name for it. |

I think the blaster name should be reserved for a really short range weapon (like Eve), so plasma would be a much better option... "Gallente Plasma Rifle"

With 1.7 there will be a riffle from every race. "Assault Riffle" was a good name when there was only one type, now I feel it's time to change. I'd go with Blaster Riffle. |

Blaster all the way. It's consistent with weapons in EVE, so EVE players will immediately understand that it's shorter range than a rail rifle. Keep analogous things named consistently between games and it will make people transitioning between them easier.

I'd like a Blaster Rifle so it makes sense regarding the lore. Would also make communication with Eve players easier. When they read Blaster Rifle they would have a basic concept of what it is. And Mercs on the other hand would know what Blasters in Eve are like. |

Plasma or Blaster, I don't care which. I have always considered it a bad call to have named the short range / high damage Gallante hybrid rifle with 'AR'. Makes people think it is the default. In the past this pretty much was the case, but now with the new rifles coming, AR is a class of weapon, not a specific rifle.

My vote would be for Plasma Rifle as blast implies one short powerful burst in the English language. But since when has CCP every properly used the English language in this game. For instance an assault craft is one intended to drop off troops, while an attack craft is one designed to shoot at things. But they obviously didn't get that distinction when they named the dropships. Hell the name dropship is supposed to mean a ship that is dropped from space (and possibly another larger ship), but instead they are trying to claim that it's named after the fact that you "drop out" of it. At least they got the name of the suits right with "dropsuit."

I'm confused in your list you posted some races with General purpose rifles and support weapons and some with General purpose rifles and long rifles (i.e snipers)
Although I'm in favor of just having the current P.AR be a Plasma rifle. |

Oh yeah, its from page 2. IWS had a idea to introduce a 2nd rifle that would be the close range Blaster rifles while the plasma would be Gallente's long range version.
I posted that it would fit with all other races having 2 rifles with different characteristics.

The rail rifle/gauss rifle thing is backwards. The sniper rifle is the one that actually has rails, while the rail rifle looks like it might have rails, but probably is actually a coil/gauss gun. But considering they referred to an assault rifle, specifically the combat rifle, as an semi-automatic light support weapon that fires in bursts, I guess I shouldn't expect much better.
The blasters in eve are particle beam weapons firing a variety of things, including plasma if I understand correctly. So I say the AR should be the plasma rifle or plasma assault rifle, as it describes what type of particle blaster (as they are called in eve) it actually is. Plus then it makes it less likely that prospective new players will feel like Dust 514 is just a generic sf fps trying to copy Star Wars (or any generic science fiction setting imitating it) that has a weapon firing plasma in psuedo-laser beam type projectiles. Dust and lots of games probably take some inspiration for it because of how big the movies, but for a relatively unknown game being compared to another game or movie as a rip off could be harmful. |

Definitely voting plasma rifle, though ive come to despise the assault rifle since I began the game and would like to see it removed entirely. It's such a generic uninspired weapon and I'm disappointed it's the gallente main weapon. Scrambled rifle is unique and the rail rifle is shaping up to be as well yet as a gallente I'm stuck with the dudebro weapon from cod. using a gallente suit I'd never be able to be as effective as I possibly can with another factions weapons.
I want a new rifle for gallente that has a unique behavior like the scrambler and drop the assault rifle to frontline for noobs.
Being really bold I'd want a faction version of all weapons with skills for them. like a galente scrambler rifle that's a hybrid weapon, or an amarr hmg that fires mini lasers like the Assault scrambler.
Essentially 4 faction versions of every gun with unique skills benifiting they're respective race.
Instead of cookie cutter reload and ammo skills that don't help the weapon at all.
