..... not using Proto gear in pub matches... ambushes specifically.
Guess what... I kept getting killed by try-hards in proto gear!
So the next match I suited up in proto gear.... and only died once (orbital).
I don't care about my KDR.... but unless something gets done about mis-matches in pub games, you're going to get a large number of junior players either resorting to cheese tactics, or simply getting frustrated and leaving.
Not great for the overall health of the game, eh?

The simplest way to combat this as a newb: SAVE your first 1.5 million SP, then throw it into grenades. Core Locus grenades can and will 1-shot protobears, or at least cut them down to size. Is it the ultimate cheese tactic? Yes. Will protobears do it all day too? Also yes. So feel no guilt, my newb brethren- spam that ****!
Maybe once the protobears start crying about it, we can finally get those stupid grenades nerfed. |

I'm only at 17mil but I haven't touched grenades either. Every time I think about it I decide to put more into my SMG and it's gotten me out of more situations then Core Locus grenades have on my alt. |

There is no red line in ambush, you're just farting out air because you don't like snipers.

Scotty isn't consistent. Scotty will take multiple organized squads and put them up against a whole team of randoms. Having a protosuit helps, but having a squad helps more (especially with logistics and suppressing fire support like mass drivers). Try soloing pubs a few hours in your protosuit - you'll lose isk.

 They're not overrated, they're overpowered.
To put it in terms of comparison to light weapons, it's like I'm throwing 4 Freedom MD shots with 2 complex damage mods in one single package, which I can cook to airbursting for headshot damage and no chance of dodging, and with a blast radius equivalent to an Assault MD.
