Hey guys,
I've been happily sniping away during my DUST career with fairly good results, even if I do say so myself.
But Vera, my charged sniper rifle, seems less deadly and more forgiving. This is a fine state of affairs for a wife but not so great in a war.
Lately my hit detection seems to be off.
Like off the reserve and in the next county.
I even get shield sparkles but the target's shield and armor don't change.
Sometimes I'm aiming right at a guy - just the same as I used to do - and either score a complete nada or some trivial amount of damage to the shield. Then I have to go through that run-like-hell thing because I just pissed him off and he's looking for a skull for his mantelpiece.
Sometimes I'm aiming at a guy and the round hits his buddy standing beside him. Which is ok. I love the points and everything. But it's not doing a ton of good for my confidence.
The Death Express doesn't seem to stop in Dodge anymore.
It used to stop in Dodge.
Frequently.
Hell, I used to drive the sumbitch.
Now I'm sad; standing at the Dodge train station, cradling Vera gently. My silent tears roll off my cheeks and drip onto old newspapers and cigarette butts littering the ground.
Someone seems to have left out the testosterone on the latest batch of charged sniper rifle rounds.
Is it me or CCP?
Please share your experiences with this issue.

maybe its that sniper does less damage to shields now compared to b4 and yes i know what you are talking about im a pretty good shot with a sniper in dust and even when i lead the shot perfectly sometimes it misses there must be some hit detection issues with this along with almost every other weapon or turret lol.

I went 21/0 last night with my charge - lots of dumb protobears that stand still raining down nades and AR rounds from the pipes on line harvest domination make trying to hack the objective horrible but sniping very profitable! So, in summary, I'm not seeing what you are seeing. But, then again I only snipe part time so maybe my sample size is smaller.

I too have noticed that quite a few of my on-target shots (at least 20%) now result in shield flash, but no damage being applied. This is on all sorts of targets, at all ranges- it's not a terrain glitch, as I first suspected. CCP fixed everything but NKs and somehow managed to break sniper hit detection. |

Well its really map dependant and WHAT you are shooting at.
I guarantee My scouts get 1 shotted by any kind of sniper XD
An i dont seem to be able to dodge at all......

Yes I've been having issues too, plz send help. Snipers don't have a max range do they?

No, the shots are supposed to go forever and always do 100% damage.

Sniper Rifle max range is 599m. at 600m the bullet stops completely. There is no falloff distance with reduced damage like every other weapon has. It is finite.
That used to be the distance from 1 MCC to another. These stupid new maps, that's like a third of the map. . . And Sniper Rifles lost Shrpshoot V to bring that range to 748. . . Which still doesn't reach MCC to MCC on maps like Spine Crescent, Skim Junction, Fractured Road, Boarder Gulch, or Impact Ridge.
Hit Detection? I've been complaining about that for so long. It was kinda bad back in beta. I would blue-shield maybe 2-5 times out of my 35 shots. It got better with Uprising.
Recently, like the past 2 weeks recently, I'm getting a whole lot of blue-shields. PC is pretty bad. OMG, using a Thale's to guarantee 2 shot kills, see 3 people come, watch 4 shots blue-shield... Feeling more useless than normal
OTH, have lots of fun quick-scoping on my 80 shield, 554 armor scout suit with an Ishukone SR and Toxin SMG... but you got to experience that first hand the other day, Poonmuch

This might explain it, I was trying to counter snip two guys on the mountains and none of the shots rendered just shields that twilight style vamped out, I think the other guy was using the Kolkata sniper, which has better zoom and I think a higher range.

Yep, been complaining about the exact same issues. However, it does seem to vary for me. Some matches I do anywhere between 27 and 35 then other times that weird hit 'n' miss thing kicks in. It feels like some weird glitch that happens randomly.
This wouldn't be such an issue though if they took AA out of the game completely. Scramblers and AR's seem to have sniper range and accuracy too these days, but I digress.
If CCP could just iron out these things already...? |

Before graphical update they were convinced that 'this' have something to do with invisible layers on far distance(mountain snipers fights), and release new graphic will fix this.
It's something like 1yr since I experience this stuff, so we are not far from fixing it, right? |

I noticed the blue shinings too, all resulting in a no-hit. I believe it's related to the hit detection system: since the shield stands around the armor, if a bullet passes between the shield and the armor, the shield reacts with a blue spark, but no hit or damage is dealt eventually.
Yet, I noticed that a lot of times when firing with the red dot, the bullet still misses... |

It's worse for counter-snipers, who need to rely on that opening headshot or they're f*cked. Then there's Thale's users who are sofar back in the redline they're literally invisible to everything but another Thale's.
