Let me preface this by saying; Yes, I should have died. Both my shields and armor were low and recovering. I knew one more engagement too soon would do me in. I'm not complaining just asking. Now with that said, my question is:
What is the effective range of a sub machinegun? I ask because I was taken down by a Toxin Sub Machinegun at 70m. That seemed a little far to me, but I'm not sure. Again, I'm not calling for a nerf of the sub machinegun, I'm not railing against sub machineguns, this is not a QQ, just a curiosity. |

SMG is an 80, more if you use minny suit, bullet AR. 2 SMGs on a minny assault are fun. |

I was in a 2v1 I took out the first guy with carthum then got the other guy lower armour and killed him with an smg this was around 65-75m

I don't know the answer to your question, but I will add these tidbits....
I've had quite a few kills at 60+ meters with the SMG.
Remember, it does more damage to armor than shields, and headshots count. |

All hitscan weapons have a potentially unlimited range, its to do with optimal, effective, absolute ranges! I remember in 1.2 bullets would physically cease to exist after a certain range!

I'm not sure this is true. It could just be that many weapon's ranges are greater than the terrible draw distance.

Hard to test either way, but that would still result in an SMG killing the OP. If you can see it, you can hurt it. (Just a question of how much.)

Minmatar pilots fights in falloff and I'm happy to see that now happens in DUST as well. The damage isn't great but you fling enough lead at someone and eventually they'll go down and the Minmatar weapons are good for flinging lots of ammo. I've had victims run away from me at 20% armor and its taken an entire magazine to finish them off but I've done it.

Minmatar weapons seem to operate consistent with minmatar weapons in EVE. They have a very small optimal but a large falloff range. Falloff range is their effective range. You always fight in your falloff/effective range with minmatar weapons and then you are lucky if you do get within optimal. At optimal they will rip it up.
Unlike Gallente blasters which have small but farther optimal range but have very small falloff/effective range. So you can fight in your optimal.
If the pen is mightier than the sword, in a duel I'll let you have the pen!

I think the ishukone assault smg stops doing damage at around 80meters, I am speaking purely from memory thought. One thing I do know is that the ar has an optimal of 1- infinite meters...
