It was previously the strongest ranged non-sniper rifle option, and had a very specific weakness in that it was useless up close.
After 1.7 that honor will go to the rail rifle and scrambler rifle, leaving a weapon that will struggle to compete at range and be absolutely worthless up close.
Basically, it is to be the polar opposite of the current HMG. Useless outside of its optimal, and mediocre inside of it. It's a growing trend for "niche" weaponry in this game to lose its niche and just become bad in general.
Hath a brave Wolfman any desire to address these issues in public, perchance? |

Seriously, can they? Cuz if they can then the laser rifle can take it's walk of shame. |

I'm actually perfectly set for the future. Scrambler rifle is looking good. Great even. But that doesn't mean I should ignore the plight of poorly designed weapons.
If they made variations using different crystals it might make it worth using.
Some crystals can hit ridiculously far in Eve, but do craptastic damage. Would be less for stopping power, and more for harassment. |

The purpose of the laser rifle is to easily give away your position to get murdered by scramblers and rail rifles, atleast im pretty sure i mean what else could it be for!? |

What if it has high DPS over a short time? let the switch the MD and PLC so that the PLC has good DPS and the MD has good alpha...

it will be useless if ccp does not buff the adv and proto tiers the rail rifle will make it 100% useless |

Alas, it may very well be useless, or at least inferior. I like the idea of giving it some different variations, though. Or at least a range buff.

You don't see the big picture at all yet.
The rail rifle is created for long range superiority. If it can be beaten by the laser rifle, it has no purpose.
The laser rifle can ONLY exist in long range conflicts. If it gets out-ranged by the rail rifle and becomes contested in DPS, it has no purpose.
This is not something I have to wait to see. It is a fact and an inevitability with no other possible outcome. One of these weapons requires a role change, or there will be a redundancy with one clearly inferior weapon. Fact. |
